Food Gifts
Skip the Skittles and wrap up some of these delicious and healthy treats instead. Some of these are solid in individual small packages already, and others are individually wrapped in bulk packs that you can split up to put in multiple stockings.
- Healthy chocolates – Lily’s and Lindt are great options
- Fruit (of course!)
- Beef sticks
- Kind Bars
- Yum Earth candy
- Smart Sweets
- Healthy peanut butter or almond butter cups (Justin’s peanut butter cups or almond butter cups are great choices, or you can make your own Homemade Almond Butter Cups). Lily’s has small bags of almond butter cups as well.
- Beef jerky – jerky is a great snack to take on-the-go
- Trail mix packs
- Small jar or bag of healthy hot chocolate mix (here’s a regular one and an adaptogenic one — this Homemade Adaptogenic Hot Chocolate is a great option too. Cacao Bliss packs turmeric)
- Larabars
- Small bags of popcorn (Skinny Pop is a great option, and this Sugar-Free Kettle Corn is a great homemade option)
- Fruit leathers
- Healthy fruit snacks
- Natural peppermint candies
- Flavored liquid stevia – there are so many fun flavors out there. We like the root beer flavor. Here is an excellent homemade option as well. Liquid stevia is a great sweetener for coffee and tea – we use it in sparkling water to make a DIY soda without all the sugar!
- Healthy trail mix
- Pique Tea
- Coffee substitute or decaf coffee sticks
- homemade spice blends (this taco seasoning and this chili powder are great options)
- Healthy gum
- Healthier hard candy. Place these in a small jar or a reusable snack pouch that becomes an extra little gift
- Extracts – this pure almond extract is a great option, and so is this Homemade Vanilla Extract
- Naturally colored sprinkles
- Healthy chocolate bark – wrap up individual packages of this chocolate peppermint bark or this Homemade Peppermint Bark
- Healthy cookies – in the same way, wrap up small bags of cookies like these Simple Mills cookies. (Simple Mills has lots of other great snacks.) Or wrap up some of these Almond Crescents or these Snowball Cookies.
- Healthy syrup — this chocolate syrup is great, and so is this caramel syrup
- An Avocado! Seriously this is an option. This video is a riot where a kid is ecstatic about getting an avocado in his stocking!
Beauty and Personal Care
Your skin is your largest organ. This Christmas, how about wrapping up some of these clean and non-toxic personal care and beauty stocking stuffers. Most are for women / girls, but there are some that can be used for guys too!
- Lip gloss – Beautycounter has great options with lovely colors.
- Clean deodorant – Truly, Beautycounter is my favorite (our youngest loves the Sequoia scent and he’s a teen boy, so that’s saying something) or make your own!
- Hand lotion – buy some or make your own
- Lip Scrub – buy one or make your own
- Sugar scrub – great for hands, feet and body. Beautycounter’s Lemongrass Scrub is the best I’ve ever used, but you can easily make a Homemade Sugar Scrub too!
- Body butter – buy some or make your own Homemade Whipped Body Butter
- Face mask – This Charcoal Mask and AHA Mask both work great.
- Salt Scrub
- Hair Clips – Lilla Rose has so many great options for clips and more. Here’s my Lilla Rose review to learn more.
- Clean nail polish – This brand looks great!
- Clean perfume – Beautycounter has new clean scents ( I personally like the Miles Away scent) and Neal’s Yard Remedies has an amazing Frankincense perfume. I get compliments whenever I wear it!
- Natural Toothpaste – or this Homemade Tooth Powder is a great option too!
- Natural Dental Floss
- Lip balm – you can also DIY this for sure.
- Natural hand sanitizer
- Charcoal bar
- Bath salts (purchased or homemade)
- SLIP Silk Pillowcase – I love mine! So much nicer than a regular one and better for your face too! I know there are cheaper ones, but there are some scary negative reviews about weird threads coming out of them — hmmmm.
- Cooling eye mask – apparently great for bags. I’m buying one of these for my own stocking!
Clothing
- Socks – Darn Tough has a lifetime guarantee that can’t be beat. While it’s nearly impossible to find 100% natural fiber socks, Darn Tough comes kind of close. I shy away from socks that are heavily polyester.
- FUN socks – like these Jane Austen socks or these PENGUIN socks! We have penguin lovers in our family so there are perfect!
- All-cotton underwear – skip the toxins, especially for intimate wear. Jockey has great cotton and PACT is a well respected all organic line.
- Minimalist shoes can even fit in a stocking since their soles are so flexible, they can be rolled up! I LOVE my Xero shoes.
- Organic neck warmer / headband (from Japan)
- Mittens
- T-shirt – a nice 100% cotton tee shirt is not only a great gift (better than all the polyester ones that leach plastic into your body) but it will also take up a lot of space if you’re stumped on other gifts to give.
- GOTS certified organic wool slouchy hat – for women, men, and littles! Love these!
- Alex and Ani bracelets. I love mine and wear them whenever I go out. This test of older bracelets showed them as being fine regarding lead and cadmium contamination and the company has a statement on their site about their quality. I’ve called and they do seem to be pretty thorough.
Supplements / Natural Health Supports
Lots of great options here for the healthy enthusiast or for someone who’s new to healthy living.
- Essential Oils – an essential oil blend or two would be another great addition
- Nuun or LMNT Hydration Boosters
- EMF protection products – I’m working on researching these and will share once I have more info. I still like this healthy jewelry at magnetude.
- Moringa snacks – Kuli kuli has some and they also have some single servings packs of moringa for greens on the go.
- Organifi – lots of delicious and powerful drinks
- Iodine – this is a great product to help you stay healthy in more ways than one. Code wholenewmom gets 10% off.
- Magnesium lotion – these lotions are so powerful more than any other Mg lotion!
- ACV gummies
- Tongue scraper – not that fun of a gift but very useful!
- Water-tracking bottle – I chose a glass one because even the non-BPA plastics are not the best. I’ve read that they can be worse then BPA!
Natural Home Products
Some practical things to make your home a safer haven.
- Natural candles – Fontana candles are the best. So many amazing scents!
- Radon meter – I love that with this we can keep track of radon levels all year round. They can change. Better safe than sorry!
- EMF meter – this is of course a pricier gift, but it fits in a normal stocking and is very practical!
- HOCl maker – HOCl is stronger than bleach and it’s non toxic. Both Force of Nature and NaturChlor (use code wholenewmom to get a discount and extended warranty) are great for making your own HOCl for cleaning your home, and so much more.
- Eye mask – I use and love this all silk one. Great for everyone in the family to get a good night’s sleep and even better when the mask is made of natural fibers.
- Steel straws
- Hygrometer (humidity gauge) – We like having at least one of these on every floor of our home. Mold is no joke and it grows when humidity is over 60% and it’s recommended to keep your home below 50% to be on the safe side. Of course too dry isn’t good either, so these come in very handy year round.
Baby
These gifts for baby focus on natural textiles and components like wood rather than plastic toys and synthetic fibers.
- Natural rattle
- All cotton organic onesie
- All cotton bibs
- Washable stuffy
- Natural teething toys – like these
- Sophie la Giraffe — this is an amazing all around toy for baby, awakening all 5 senses. I wanted a Sophie badly when my kids were little!
- Wooden ring rattle teether
- Organic cotton swaddle cloth
- Organic cotton lovey
Arts and Crafts
Creative outlets are known to be good for emotional wellness. Here are some
- Non-toxic markers – RoseArt and Faber Castell are 2 of the better options. Much better than those markers that smell (and some smell a lot!)
- Non-toxic crayons – Yes, it’s true. Crayons can have toxins in them including some heavy metals. Not good to have ongoing exposure to those. This brand and this brand are great healthier choices.
- Non-toxic paint – Honeystix does it again with non-toxic paints for kids.
- Coloring Book – this lovely book is by a friend of mine.
- Sketch book – this is a fun and different kind of sketch book, again by my friend.
- Washi tape
- Cardboard building set – isn’t this a fun set? I love the sustainability mindset of this toy.
Things for the Kitchen
Most of us healthy living peeps are in the kitchen a lot. I know I am. Here are some tools to make lot of kitchen work more pleasant and maybe even a little fun.
- Potholders
- Veggie peeler
- Reusable mason jar tops – skip fussing with the 2 part mason jar lids and get these that have a great seal instead.
- Tea ball – for making your favorite organic herbal tea.
- Small spatulas without silicone
- Stainless steel measuring spoons – I’m always needing more of these
- Twixit Clips – I use these for EVERYTHING. They are the best. Yes, they’re plastic, but they are a great tool for every whole foodie kitchen.
- Nut milk bag – for making dairy-free coconut milk, almond milk, and more.
- Kitchen shears
- Quality paring knife
- Stainless steel measuring cups
- Yeti 14 oz mug
- Natural food coloring – for fun creations in the kitchen all year round
- Stainless water bottles – for carrying filtered water (or other heathy drinks) with you wherever you go.
- Dish cloths – made with all natural fibers
- Nana saver hats – the reviews are mixed on these but they are a riot!!
For the Garden
- Natural rubber gardening gloves – These gloves look amazing. I haven’t tried them yet, but I can guarantee you that I will after seeing these reviews!
- Garden shears – I LOVE these mini clippers
- Permanent marker – thanks to other gardening pros out there, I’ve learned that this is the ONLY permanent marker that can stand up to the elements. And I’ve had plenty fail on me even though I’m not a master gardener by any means, so this marker is on my list to buy!
Ideas for Men / Boys
While most of these can be for either guys or gals, the items here might be mostly helpful for those looking to stuff a stocking for a guy in their household.
- Multipurpose tool – these are all the rage and this is one of the more respected brands out there.
- Tie – yes, I know. But it fits so well in a stocking, so I just had to put this here.
- Ugly tie kit – sadly one of the reviewers didn’t get a tie in with his order, but you have to admit, this is a funny gift. It’s not eco-friendly, but it should make everyone laugh, and laughter is good for your health.
- Wallet – I think my boys / husband would love this one!
- Beard oil
- GOTS certified organic slouchy winter cap – I have these listed above too, but since they work for men, I’ve included them again.
- Organic neck warmer / headband (Japanese origin)
- Nail clippers – of course women can use these too, but it’s the men in my home who really prefer these over scissors. Why? I don’t know. Do you? This brand is supposed to be the best. They’re not cheap, but the brand’s tagline, “Takumi no waza” means the expertise of master craftsmen.” These clippers are made in Seki, a town in Gifu prefecture in Japan that’s known for sword making!
- Wallet ninja multitool – one of the men in my house is going to love this.
Games / Toys
- Taco and Burrito – this game looks like a ton of fun
- Deck of cards
- Uno
- Pocket versions of Connect 4 or other games. How about this one – the “world’s smallest” Connect 4 with 3 other games.
- Small stuffed animal
- Classic Toys – these would likely be the most fun for Mom and Dad!
- Origami kit – I lived in Japan for a year and loved doing this with the students there.
Experience Coupons
This is a great option that is heartfelt and makes for a lot of great experiences long after Christmas is over. How about these for some fun ideas to get….
- Hug (or 5) from Mom / Dad.
- Even better – a 20 second hug since research says that is when oxytocin is released.
- Release from a chore.
- Favorite meal (a healthy one of course. How about Egg Roll in a Bowl, Gluten-free Chili Mac, or Chicken Nuggets)?
- Ice cream outing – go to a shop that offers healthier alternatives, or buy a few healthier pints at a store near you and bring them home to enjoy healthy sundaes in your own kitchen.
- Movie night with the child’s choice of movies. Make homemade popcorn or kettle corn for everyone.
- Game night with the child’s game of choice.
And here are some Blank Coupons that you can use for these!
Miscellaneous
- Cash
- Gift cards – I know that Starbucks gift cards are typically what’s gifted, but I personally am not in love with that shop. Other great options could be of course to a local store or restaurant or a movie theater. You can even get cards for local CSAs (community supported agriculture)!
- Pocket knife – not just for boys. These come in handy in so many ways. Use caution with these of course.
- Stress balls – made from natural rubber!
- Tactical pen – our youngest has been asking for one of these.
- Christmas ornaments – my mom used to give us each an ornament with our names carved on it each year. I still have quite a few of them
- Bandanas and hankies
How Stockings Can Make Christmas Last Longer (sort of)
We aren’t a family that has a lot of traditions, but one thing we’ve done over the past number of years is to not celebrate Christmas all on one day. We stretch it out.
One way we do that is with an Advent Scavenger Hunt using a Christmas stocking Advent calender like this. I put clues in each mini stocking, leading the kids around the house with clues to find that day’s treat or gift. We typically don’t get to it every day and so it often goes into the New Year.
In that same spirit, why not do this with stockings and all of your presents? Instead of opening everything at once, stretch it out. Open one gift each day. It’s a great way to slow everything down and enjoy the Christmas season longer.
As mentioned in that post, it helps avoid the typical Christmas morning chaos and all the rush and hustle that can make us all totally miss the real Reason for the Season.
Where to Buy Great Christmas Stockings
If you’re looking to get some new stockings to stuff, there are all kinds of styles, but these knit stockings really caught my eye. Simple and they’re a bit stretchy.
The stretchy part will come in very handy so you can fit more healthy and heartfelt gifts inside.
What gifts on this list are your favorite or do you have another great idea to share?
I have gone from wearing mostly polyester to all organic or bamboo clothing. There are quite a few places to order online:
Maggies Organics (Socks; purchase local or Amazon)
Boody (Purchased a lot, bamboo from Australia)
WearPact (have purchased a lot)
Harvest and Mill (have never purchased, new to me)
Blue Canoe (never purchased)
Toad & Co. (purchased items)
Under the Canopy (purchased a lot)
Garnet Hill (have not purchased)
Quince (has silk, cashmere, Italian leather, etc. Bought an organic cotton sweater)
Knitwear (NZ merino, possum (more like mink), silk. Just found them)
Pendleton (they either use US wool and outsource the manufacturing, or use foreign wool and manufacture in the US)
I have a couple of other wool companies I buy from…Sonoma Wool Company, Holy Lamb Organics (they have an all wool sleeping bag!)
Decades ago, I only wore cotton. (Found out it was a crop that is highly sprayed with pesticides that can’t be washed out) so then I switched to only leggings (all polyester) with asymmetrical tops (also all polyester). They were more comfortable to work in, had TONS of pretty patterns, but I discovered health issues from wearing polyester. I wore organic bras and panties, but most of my body was covered by tight fitting leggings, causing my body some problems.
So, I switched to all bamboo (no problems if it isn’t organic, it isn’t sprayed) or organic cotton.
I can’t find the type of top I like (the asymmetrical flowy tops) so I found a great organic fabric supply, Organic Cotton Plus, and have been buying fabric to match my organic leggings.
ANYway, there are a LOT of companies that have organic clothing and fabrics. (There are many others that are more ‘mainstream’ that I did not list, REI for one…)
Love this – thanks, Carol! I try to do all cotton next to my skin – but I will wear a poly jacket / vest over that. Do you wear layers and are all of them all natural? Are you making the asymmetrical top now (the one you can’t find)?
Here’s one of my dilemmas. Socks. Maggies are not all natural – thoughts? https://maggiesorganics.com/organic-wool-socks-wool-crew/
Yes, I am aware that they aren’t ALL natural…I buy either the Classic Crew: 98% organic cotton/1% nylon/1% spandex
Or the Rag Socks: 88.3% organic cotton/11.3% nylon/0.4% spandex
I dislike the fact they aren’t all organic, however, I feel if they are over 85% organic, it’s ok. Not great, but ok. Most organics have a bit of either spandex or elastane (same thing basically),I just try to find the mostly organic as that’s all I can do. Much better than all poly.
I have not yet made my organic flowy tanks and long sleeved yet. I do have enough fabric to make about 10 or so, more than I need. But I could also use the fabric to make my own underwear…although I have a lot of organic bras and panties.
I have kept some of my more favorite polyester leggings, but always wear my Boody bamboo leggings under, and if I wear one of my poly tops, will put an organic tank under it.
I feel better wearing “the good stuff” instead of the poly, both physically and mentally.
I do wear layers, not a lot, but I have at home what is now called ‘airplane pants’, a bit better than ’sweats’, but similar, with a tank top, long sleeve and if necessary, a sweater. I use the rag socks as slippers.
I always have run a bit hot, and when I worked, usually only wore a tank top and maybe a vest, even if the coldest weather. Now that I’m retired, I am not as active, so I do tend to get a bit colder, and my house has no heat, so I use small space heaters and Mr Heater buddy when really cold, bundle up as noted above.
I’m so glad you shared this – I didn’t know about Boody – could they function like long underwear or no? I use long underwear all winter long but it’s poly and I am trying to dump that.
What organic bras do you like? I found some all cotton ones that I was ready to buy. Undies too please? Though I am not really in need of those. My underwear is all cotton.
Now I want to see the tops you are planning to make :). And I have to get my youngest off poly. He’s the hard one!
You absolutely can use Boody leggings as long/thermal underwear! They are so soft, and on their own they are pretty warm but paired with something else they are super warm.
They also have the capri length, that I wear under my poly capri leggings for summer…..
SO excited! I tried a wool kind and I didn’t like them. I was going to try another type but this looks like it might be better. Thank you!
I have wool long johns, and I also have a set made from silk! The wool I keep in my Jeep during winter, just in case! Surprisingly to me, the wool isn’t scratchy at all…
I might try the wool again but it still itched me. I think the silk ones I tried seemed really cheap as do so many things these days.
I’ll try to find the company I bought from. I got wool gloves (liners, thinner) and socks from Amazon. Be careful, some “wool” items on Amazon are only part wool, part …yup…poly!
I got these silk longjohns:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M6XXXOO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
They seem well made, and they fit well, at least on me…
Thanks they look pretty good!
I have purchased bras from Boody, WearPact and Toad & Co. I like them all. Panties from Boody, WearPact and a couple of vendors on Amazon. Some were organic cotton, some were bamboo.
Just remember to get ORGANIC cotton: cotton that isn’t organic has been sprayed during the entire growing cycle and can’t be washed out, ever.
It IS hard to get of polyester! Almost 100% of clothing out there is polyester, as it’s cheap to make, and it does feel soft, until it doesn’t. My daughter has fibro, and can only wear clothing a few times before it becomes too rough to wear.
I’ll email you pics of the poly tops I’m planning to make in organic cotton. (all purchased on Amazon)
I’ve wondered about washing out the pesticides…..you’re sure you can’t wash it out? Ugh. If that’s true I’ve got a house full of toxins and most people couldn’t afford to replace this.
Not to mention some of the stuff that’s organic just isn’t nice looking or feels bad to me – cut is off, etc.
OK now I’m remembering that I did read this a long time ago. Ugh. So now what? I mean now I have to replace EVERYTHING in my house basically? I do not think I have one thing that is GOTS as far as clothing is concerned and already it’s a fight to get one person in my family to ditch poly. What’s a mom to do?
Yes a lot of poly is not good.
Thanks for bringing this up – I think! I need help…… https://oecotextiles.blog/2010/11/10/how-to-get-rid-of-chemicals-in-fabrics-hint-trick-question/
I know it’s hard to replace everything! I actually did it after I retired (all those years wearing poly!!!! UGH!)
It IS expensive, (really, but I feel that the benefit for my health was worth the expense) but the companies I buy from do have sales occasionally. I try to buy then. It’s still expensive, and I can’t imagine having to clothe a whole family! Just do one set at a time, try to get onto sales, and just do what you can.
As mentioned, start with underwear, and then the top or bottom that is more close to your skin, just one item at a time, until you have ONE set of totally organic.
Also, I only use bamboo sheets…maybe start there as it is something that is close to your body for 8 hours or so…..
Little by little, get what you can and don’t sweat it…30+ years wearing all poly and I’m still here! I turn 70 in 5 days!
Yes, I was thinking underwear and sheets too. My sheets are bamboo but the whole family’s bedding is not and I suspect our furniture isn’t the best either…..I’ll have to check reviews on the bras and underwear – if you have good tips let me know and thanks.
For decades I wore underwire until I read that underwires cause cancer, or something, as it doesn’t allow ‘breathing’…so I went to wearing …yup…spandex, which they now also say cause cancer!…That is when I began my search for sports type bras from organic material. I had worn bamboo socks for years as well as bamboo or organic cotton panties, but nothing else. Then when I retired decided to ditch all the poly leggings for organic.
I’m going to make a lot of changes! Just worried about the cost but I’ll do what I can. I’m going to reach out to PACT b/c they are filling Amazon and Zappos warehouses w/ fragrance so that kind of defeats the purpose!!
Which bras and panties did you like best? So not happy now. I will check some reviews but I bought some PACT years ago (clothing) and didn’t love it. I thought I was doing well with what I was doing and just got rid of 2 mattresses and a mattress pad……..not this!
Not sure I understand about the fragrance…Do they carry a line of fragrances? I thought they were only into bedding and clothing……
I should also mention that many of the “organic” clothing companies are getting into “green” clothing, meaning used plastics! So be careful to only look at Organic fabrics…
I mean that I don’t use Amazon often but I have noticed an artificial fragrance on their products. Tried some things from Zappos this week (haven’t ordered from them in years) and same fragrance! I found out before receiving my package that Amazon bought Zappos so that makes sense. I don’t want my organic clothing to smell when I order it!
I, unfortunately, do order a lot from Amazon. I have noted some fragrance occasionally, but think it’s just perfume (heavy!) worn by employees.
I have never had any fragrance smell on my clothes, and I always wash them first anyway, and I am pretty sensitive to smell….
I’m pretty sure it’s not their perfume since the fragrance is always the same and now I smell it on Zappos too – too much of a coincidence. And often the fragrance doesn’t go away with washing. At least not with some things. If I get second hand clothing it can take forever and some things I hand outside and even a year later I still smell it!
Wow! Maybe it has something to do with the warehouse it comes from? I really haven’t had any problems..but I don’t shop Zappos…..
Not even with the polyester I purchased in the past have I had issues with smell…..
I’m really sorry you have to deal with that!
I grew up in a home where my dad smoked 5 packs a day until he was in his 40’s and the doc told him he had emphysema (now called COPD) and he wouldn’t live to see his granddaughters grow up. He quit cold turkey. After I moved out (while he was still smoking) I was SO sensitive, still am, to cigarette smoke, and it has increased to include other ‘fake’ smells, too. Dryer sheets and commercial laundry detergent, air ‘fresheners’ , perfume, those auto air thingees they have in bathrooms, scented candles…etc.
I agree it likely does but I would think Amazon would want things to be uniform so who knows! I complained to PACT today. I hear you on the sensitivities! My parents smoked a lot too -thankfully they stopped but it had done its damage!! I HATE those smells but since working on my health I’m a bit less sensitive now. I still avoid but I am not as bothered.
What do you think about the elastane in some of PACT’s clothing? I’m trying out some of their leggings. It’s about 10%.
I forgot that some companies call them “airplane pants”, others call them “joggers”. Either way they are so comfortable and easy to wear.
Sorry not understanding what this was referring to. And about the family costs, one of my boys is already saying “So if cotton is this bad should I just wear poly all the time?!” Ugh.
Tell him he is wearing petroleum! Crude oil!
I “replied” to my first post about the everyday clothes I now wear. I can’t remember, but one company called them airplane pants, others call them joggers. That is the style name….
The email you have on your About page isn’t correct.
My email can’t send to that address.
I’ve told him. I’ve checked airplane pants on PACT – they have a few styles. I wish they had reviews. Not sure why they don’t!
Adrienne, I’m not super happy about the elastane. I thought it was a better option than lycra/spandex, only to research it and find out it’s pretty much the same. However, it is a LOT better to have 10% elastane/lycra/spandex and 90% good material rather than having 100% toxic!
I have purchased several pairs of their patterned leggings, as that is all I wear. (for decades, I wore regular leggings and have some health issues from doing that)
I have kept a few of the regular leggings because, well, they are just so darn comfy and VERY pretty! But I wear my Boody black leggings under so I am not in contact with the polyester at all.
Thanks much – yes 90% is better than 100%! How did you know that the poly was hurting your health?
I noticed Boody has some nylon and … “Content: 79% viscose made from bamboo, 15% nylon, 6% spandex”.
So I guess either way it’s hard, right? Maybe PACT is better?
I have never had thyroid or hormone issues until recently and because nothing else changed about my eating or behavior, I figured out it is the polyester. When young, I had a lot of body hair…heavy eyebrows, underarm, etc. Over the years wearing polyester, especially clothes (like leggings) that are tight fitting, all of my body hair has gone. No need to shave my legs or ‘pits’ (for years)! no arm hair, etc. This is due to hormonal and thyroid issues from having such close contact with polyester for so long.
SEARCH: polyester causing hormonal and thyroid issues
https://www.endocrine.org/news-and-advocacy/news-room/2020/plastics-pose-threat-to-human-health
https://drhagmeyer.com/plastic-one-of-your-thyroids-worst-enemies-how-plastic-can-interfere-with-your-immune-system/
These are just 2 articles of MANY that talk about polyester (plastic) being responsible for hormone and thyroid problems
Yes, I’m aware of them causing those problems which is why I don’t like them. Part of why, at least – there are other reasons. But I didn’t know how you would know that that is the case but I can understand your perspective now. Did your hormonal situation change after stopping wearing them?
I’m still on thyroid meds and having issues with stress and adrenal issues, but my homeopathic doctor says that because it was such a longstanding problem that it won’t go away overnight. My hair is looking like it is coming back a bit…eyebrows are much slower.
Clearly, health issues that have been in place for a long time (20 years +) aren’t going to be repaired immediately, but I have hope, especially now I only wear organic cotton and bamboo.
Good to hear that things appear to be improving. When did you change your clothing?
It’s only been about a year. You’d think I would have been smarter and done it while I had a job instead of waiting until I retired!!!
But, truthfully, due to stress on the job, I got T2Diabetes and retired 2 years earlier than I wanted because my job was literally killing me. I found a naturopathic doctor who began working with me and discovered the severe adrenal fatigue as well as thyroid issues. I began trying to figure out how to lessen my thyroid and adrenal issues and thought about wearing polyester for decades for work. Did a bit of research and decided that I wanted to see if it would help me to totally rebuild my wardrobe. I was already wearing only organic cotton or bamboo socks and panties. So I bought new bras (I had given up underwire bras years before, but was still wearing nasty spandex workout bras…) so they were next, then began the Pack (Boody, Under the Canopy, etc) leggings, then the lounging pants (airplane/joggers). Next is making my tops from patterns made from polyester tops I own and like the style of. Right now, I wear layers to keep my skin away from the polyester tops. I have quite a bit of the fabric to sew, (from Organic Cotton Plus) just need to get my sewing machine out and make them!
So, not really long enough to see a huge difference, but I feel better about not putting polyester against my skin.
Oh yes that’s not that long and of course so many things we don’t know are going on can affect hormones….. I’m happy buying PACT clearance right now and might try boody too!
