Avocados are a special diet girl’s best friend when it comes to making desserts. And I’m so excited to bring more of them to you in the near future.

After trying this recipe you are for sure going to want to stock up on avocados when they are on sale and follow my instructions for freezing avocados so you can whip up this pudding anytime a chocolate craving hits.

Can you say, “Yum”?

The Origin of this Chocolate Avocado Mousse

This recipe is the recreation of a delectable dessert at a small local eclectic restaurant that specialized in allergy-free fare but is sadly now closed. We don’t eat out often, but I went there a few times with friends and the chocolate avocado pudding was phenomenal.

I figured it couldn’t be that hard to recreate it and I was right. In fact, I think this version is a tad better.

The avocados add such richness to the pudding. They’re of course so good for you and so creamy. It’s nice to get loads of fiber and other nutrients with your chocolate fix.

It’s great plain, but truly lovely with a dollop of whipped something, or even sprinkles of chocolate powder, shavings, nuts, or berries: whatever your health-chocolate-loving heart desires.

Chocolate Avocado Pudding

I intended to make this as a Chocolate Avocado Pudding, but after making it, I made a lovely discovery.

You can indulge in this recipe immediately for a lovely smooth healthy Chocolate Pudding treat or you can let it chill for at least an hour in the fridge and then after mixing it, the texture is more like a Chocolate Avocado Mousse.

Either way, you have a dessert that you will love and that will love you back.

Recipe Notes

  • Coconut Milk: If you would like to make your own coconut milk, here are the how to’s for my Easiest Homemade Coconut Milk.
  • Sweetener: This recipe calls for a lot of sweetener. I tried making this chocolate avocado mousse with varying amounts of sweeteners and found that this was the perfect amount for me. The sweetener is needed to offset the avocado flavor, but of course, you can adjust the amount down if you like.
  • AIP: In place of the low-carb sweetener and stevia, substitute any complaint sweetener, such as honey, maple syrup (see Choosing Maple Syrup), or organic coconut sugar. Read this post on substituting sweeteners, and also read How to Use Stevia. Use organic carob instead of cocoa.

    1. Looks to me that 6 Tbsp of the Gentle Sweet would work for the xylitol and about 9 Tbsp for the stevia. Hope it works out! I would work w/ that and do it to taste.

    1. No, it’s not. The avocados tend to need quite a bit of sweetener, but you are welcome to try using less if you like.

  3. I’ll definitely do this recipe! I found out my son was allergic to milk 2 years ago and chose to continue breastfeeding, so I had to do dairy free diet. But sometimes I NEED chocolate! Loved to find your blog! Lots of information and very nice to read! Congratulations!

    1. They can really vary in strength (as can all stevia). I would look up a conversion chart online and use it to taste. Enjoy!

    1. Hello Holly.

Thanks for reading. I have been using scoops as a measurement for most of my stevia recipes b/c there is typically a small 1/32 tsp scoop in many stevia extract containers as a 1/32 tsp (1 scoop) is hard to measure. I have a link in that line in the recipe to a post that talks about how to use stevia.

I just updated the measurement for the stevia for this post and might go back and do it for others since we are going to be trying to get nutrition facts for the recipes and that would be a necessary change. Thanks and hope that is helpful.
