Over the years, my adrenals have struggled on and off, and when the struggle has been on, my Low-Carb Adrenal Cocktail has come to the rescue many times.

It tastes great and has become one of my favorite wellness drinks. And now, with this dry mix version, it's so simple to make that you can have it ready in minutes.

And since my boys like it so much that they steal it from me often, I'd say it's a winner.

It's a great drink, but it's a bit of a bother to make it. This Adrenal Cocktail Powder recipe solves that problem completely.

What Is an Adrenal Cocktail Powder?

There are multiple adrenal cocktail powder supplements on the market, but this is a DIY version that you can easily make yourself.

It’s a concentrated dry mix that you blend with water and lemon for a quick homemade adrenal cocktail. Since the ingredients are already combined, you can skip all the measuring and have this nourishing drink ready in minutes.

This adrenal cocktail powder makes it a breeze to pull this drink together for busy mornings, you can easily take it when you travel, and there's no need to measure a bunch of ingredients each time you want it.

Key Ingredients

  • turmeric: turmeric gives this adrenal cocktail powder its bright color and earthy flavor. I use less than many turmeric-heavy wellness drinks because I prefer a more balanced flavor.
  • lemon: traditional adrenal cocktails often use a lot of orange juice or coconut water, but I prefer using lemon for bright flavor without as much sugar.
  • olive oil: extra virgin olive oil adds healthy fats and blends beautifully into the drink without the texture issues that can happen with coconut oil. I also prefer it over MCT oil because it’s less processed and more budget-friendly.
  • protein powder: protein helps make this adrenal cocktail more satisfying and balanced. Use your favorite protein powder, but I recommend choosing one with clean ingredients and minimal additives.
  • baobab: adds natural vitamin C and a subtle tangy flavor. It’s optional, but I think it really improves the overall taste and nutrition of the mix.
  • stevia: stevia keeps this adrenal cocktail powder lower in sugar while still tasting pleasantly sweet. Adjust the amount based on your preferred sweetness level and the sweetener you use.
  • cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and clove: these warming spices help balance the turmeric flavor and make the drink taste cozy and comforting instead of overly earthy.

What's the Best Protein Powder?

For starters, please buy organic protein powder if you can afford to. Many of the foods that protein powders are made from are heavily doused with pesticides, so choose wisely. This organic vegan protein powder is a solid choice but note it can cause digestive upset for some people.

One of the best protein powders out there is Equip. It's made from grass-fed beef and that's about it. This company is top notch with unsurpassed quality but it does clump in cold beverages.

If you tolerate whey, then whey protein powder is a good choice as well. I always recommend choosing a grass-fed option for whey protein if possible.

Recipe Notes

This adrenal cocktail powder is easily adaptable for special diets.

  • You can use collagen protein instead of a protein powder, however collagen is lacking tryptophan so you might want to add that to your diet if you choose to do that.
  • For AIP, use the collagen protein option or Equip protein powder (use code WNM to get 15% off your first order) and substitute organic mace for nutmeg.
  • You can choose to use less Vitamin C for this recipe if you like. If doing so, you should scale down the amount of the concentrate used by 1/4 teaspoon or so.
  • I recommend using sodium ascorbate for this recipe. Other vitamin Cs have different properties. One thing that I like about sodium ascorbate is that it is pretty well tolerated and not acidic so you can buy it in bulk and use it for other purposes where you wouldn't want the acidity, as in this DIY Swim Spray.
  • This is a “fuel pull” for those on the Trim Healthy Mama plan.
  • Vitamin C Alternatives: You can use another whole food powder or this Homemade Vitamin C powder is a great option as well.

Now that you have this Adrenal Cocktail Powder, you can easily make adrenal cocktails any day you like, or even each and every day. No more measuring a long list of ingredients every time.

You can spend less time measuring and more time enjoying your drink and hopefully feeling better. It definitely makes busy days a lot easier.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons turmeric powder (use less for milder flavor)
  • 1/4 cup protein powder
  • 1/4 cup baobab powder (optional but recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ground nutmeg
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground clove
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon pure stevia extract (or other sweetener to taste)

Instructions

  • Add all dry ingredients to a medium bowl or pint-sized mason jar.
  • Stir or shake well until thoroughly combined.
  • Store the adrenal cocktail powder in an airtight container in a cool, dark place.
  • To make an adrenal cocktail, add 1 1/2 cups water and 1-2 lemons (or 1/8 to 1/4 cup lemon juice) to a blender.
  • Add 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil or other healthy liquid oil along with 5 teaspoons of the adrenal cocktail powder.
  • .Add vitamin C powder if desired (see Notes below).
  • Blend until smooth.
  • Pour into a large jar or pitcher and add additional water and ice to taste.
  • Sip throughout the day or as desired.

Notes

  • Protein Powder: Use whatever protein powder you like. Collagen can be used instead of protein powder, but note that collagen does not contain tryptophan.
  • Vitamin C Options: I prefer adding vitamin C separately when blending the drink so you can customize both the amount and type used. My preferred option is sodium ascorbate because it is less acidic and generally well tolerated. Acerola or another whole food vitamin C like this Homemade Vitamin C Powder are also good options.
  • Sweetener Options: Adjust the stevia or sweetener to taste. If not avoiding sugar, orange juice can also be used to sweeten the drink.
  • AIP Option: Use an AIP protein powder or collagen instead of protein powder and substitute mace for nutmeg.
  • Storage: Store the powder mix in a tightly sealed container away from heat and moisture.
  • Lemon Tip: Use organic lemons if blending whole lemons due to pesticide residue in peels.
  • Healthy Fat: Extra virgin olive oil is my preferred fat for this adrenal cocktail because it blends well, tastes great, and provides beneficial fats without the cost or texture issues of MCT oil or coconut oil.

  1. Hi! I have a vegan protein powder but it is vanilla flavored. Do you think it would work in your version of the Singing Canary? Or is unflavored best? Thanks!
    Katie

    1. Hi there. Yes, it should work just fine and I think it would taste amazing. I am pretty sure I linked to some vanilla flavored protein powders in the post :). Hope you like it!

  2. I tried it today. I didn’t have organic vanilla, so I left that out. I enjoyed the drink very much.
I will definitely be making this in the future to continue on with the best health possible.
Thank you for your great recipe.

  3. Hi Adrienne! This looks amazing! Thanks for sharing! My husband loves the Singing Canary! I use some supplements called Plexus that support gut and adrenal health….have you ever used them? I like to mix the drink packet into my GGMS recipes and it flavors it nicely while feeding my gut with prebiotics and balancing my blood sugar and hormones! I’d love to share it with you!

    1. Hi Ashley -no, I have never used them. I have had several reps contact me, but never tried it. thanks!

  4. I do have Adrenal Fatigue, and am under a Doctor’s care. Could you tell me the benefit of the ingredients that are suppose to support the Adrenals and how they support them? Thank you?

  5. Do you have a recipe for 1 singing canary? The one in the THM book doesn’t have all the spices and I don’t want to make a concentrate until I taste this recipe because I don’t like the original one.
    Thanks
    Melanie

  6. I am allergic to lemons. Can I make this with oranges or ACV ? If so how much? Such a bummer to have allergies.

    1. Hi there. From what I can tell, the shot contains almost everything that the original Singing Canary does so I would just use the same amount of this as you would for making the whole sipper.

    1. 5 and 1/4 tsp. If it were the other I would have written it as 1 1/4 tsp but I understand your question. Hope you enjoy it!

    1. Hi there. There is a link in the post where the recipe is – I’m going to try changing the colors of the other wording in the recipe to see if that makes it more obvious. Let me know if you don’t see it.
