Are you burdened by a stubborn wart? Here’s an assortment of natural remedies for warts, including one unbelievable one that really worked!

Would YOU try it?

plantar wart on toe with title saying amazing natural wart treatment.

I’m always on the hunt for natural remedies to treat ear infections, sinus infections, headaches, and more.

I’m just not a fan of prescription meds, or even OTC medications, mainly since one of the things that contributed to my health issues (including candida) is the overuse of meds and antibiotics in general.

So when warts surfaced in our home, I was not about to just run to the store to get an OTC wart remover – and I for sure wasn’t ready to pay $30 (how did it get that high?!) for a physician copay to have it removed from my son’s foot.

Warts are not a pleasant topic.

If you’ve ever had a wart, you know how hard it can be to get rid of it.

And it’s worse if you’ve got more than one wart. Once they start spreading they can really be tough to get rid of.

About 1 month ago I was helping my youngest get changed for bed. I don’t remember now what happened or why I noticed it, but I saw two small “somethings” on the sole of his foot, near the heel.

plantar wart on toe

I wouldn’t have thought much of them, except for the fact that I remembered having a plantar’s wart when I was a young girl.

It was painful and it took a long time to get rid of it.

I think we went to the store and got an over-the-counter wart remover and I applied it over and over again.

And they’re gross.

Back to my son.

I took a closer look at his foot and scraped a little of the surface off of the skin.

It felt hard underneath, and I could see the tell-tale little brownish-black dots in the center of a pattern.

The dots are called wart seeds sometimes, but they really are little blood clots.

Blech.

Anyway, he clearly had two of them.

Then, my son showed me a “callus” on his toe.

Hmmmm…..

It was a big one. But was it really a callus?

I went to the internet and found a site with great diagnostic information to find out if he had a callus or wart on his foot.

How to Know If You Have a Wart or a Callus

To tell know if you have a wart or callus, you will need to press down on the thing (whatever it is) and find out when you have pain.

  • If it hurts pushing straight down on it–it’s a callus.
  • If it hurts putting pressure on the sides (by squeezing it)–it’s a wart.

Sure enough, we had a wart. No pain pressing down, but when I squeezed it, my son wasn’t happy.

Now it was time to try to get rid of warts.

Time to Get Rid of the Wart

A long time ago, we had tried using oregano oil before on a wart on my husband’s finger.

One day we were on a road trip. I put the oregano oil on it and within 3 hours it went from being a raised wart to being level with the rest of his skin.

It really worked great for a natural wart remedy, but we weren’t consistent enough to get rid of it, so it’s still there.

So I tried the oregano oil on my son’s foot for several days.

Again, I wasn’t consistent enough and no surprise–nothing happened.

I really wanted to be consistent with the oregano oil, but life was getting in the way.

So I hopped back on the internet and even asked my fans on my Facebook page for their ideas. (hop on over there if you haven’t already, K?)

Well, let me tell you, there were loads of ideas….

Natural Remedies for Warts

Following are some remedies that others suggested, plus some others that we didn’t get to try.

OTC Topical Treatments

(not going there again)

Super Glue

Doesn’t sounds very healthy to me.

Organic Apple Cider Vinegar

I did this once for a wart on my hand. It ended up burning the surrounding skin and was super painful.

Banana Peel

The inside of the peel. It turns out that the inside of the banana peel has some kind of enzyme that can help address warts.

Cutting

Some people try to just cut their own warts off (Not an option. No way.)

Removal By a Physician

Sounds like a good option, but I’ve read over and over that the wart often comes back. This was the case for one of my son’s friends.

Thuja

Thuja Oil, Thuja Extract, or Thuja Homeopathic pellets. A reader mentioned that this worked well, but I haven’t tried it yet.

Vapor Rub

It’s true. Some people report that using Vicks® or a Homemade Vapor Rub works great for addressing warts.

Tea Tree Oil

I didn’t try this one, but a friend told me that she tried it and it worked great!

Echaveria

One reader wrote in to say that this plant, also known as the common garden ‘hens and chickens’ and often grown in succulent gardens and rock gardens. Simply break off a leaf and squeeze the juice onto the wart morning and night!

Garlic
One reader mentioned that a slice of garlic on the wart worked well. That makes sense since warts are caused by a virus and garlic is antiviral.

Milkweed
Milkweed juice applied daily has been reported to help with warts.

Milk Thistle Extract
Since milk thistle is also antiviral this has been successful for some as well.

Basil

This is another antiviral plant that works for some to get rid of warts. You can crush a few leaves of fresh basil and rub the paste on the warts, or apply the crushed leaves over the warts and cover that with medical or duct tape.

Aspirin

The main ingredient in aspirin is salicylic acid, the main ingredient in wart remover. One reader told me that putting a paste of aspirin on the wart for 2-3 days with tape over it caused the wart to come off and never return!

and other concoctions of all sorts. However one option really caught my eye.

Urine.

Yeppers. You all remember my post on natural ear infection remedies, right?

Well, at the time I tried that in my son’s ear (of course, after reading all over the internet that urine therapy has been used by many cultures for many years and there was even an international convention on it–so don’t think I’m just so crazy that I’ll try anything that I read on the internet–’cause I’m not), I was already trying this on my son’s warts.

But I wasn’t sure if it was going to take care of the more stubborn ones so I didn’t want to share it yet.

Well, now you can see how well this natural wart remedy worked and judge for yourself.

How to Use Urine on a Wart

Basically you just urinate in a cup, put the urine on a small piece of cotton ball or pad.

Squeeze to remove the excess.

Put the soaked pad or cotton ball on the wart.

Cut medical tape in the appropriate size to cover the wart and the cotton. At least you need the cotton to stay put.

Repeat daily.

We did this for a few weeks. It would have gone faster if I’d remembered to change the cotton daily, but sometimes I forgot.

But every day we noticed an obvious change in the big wart.

Plantar Wart on toe
Plantar Wart Healing a Bit

This is what his toe looked like after the “pee pee treatment” was done!

Toe healed from plantar wart
Plantar Wart Gone!

All gone except for some peeling skin.

And the other warts are gone as well.

Even while we were treating the first 3, one more showed up on the other foot (lovely) and that one is gone as well.

Now, I am thinking the oregano oil would have worked if I had been more diligent, but I would forget sometimes and frankly, urine is a lot cheaper.

But if you’re squeemish about the urine therapy, then hop over to Rocky Mountain Oils and get some oregano oil. It’s great stuff and is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. I’ve even heard of folks treating MRSA successfully with it. Now that’s something to have on hand, you know?

One Amazing Testimonial About Urine on a Wart

But I tried the urine also because the testimonials were so emphatic.

One was even pretty hilarious.

A man said his whole family had been plagued by plantar warts–except for him.

He thought it was because he had the habit of urinating in the shower, so he thought his feet were getting a natural anti-wart treatment every day.

I don’t know, but interesting, huh?

Urine Therapy for Warts–Is It Crazy?

Likely you think this is just gross and NUTS, right?

Well, check out this book – it’s got some very nice reviews.

I say – if you can get things done naturally and inexpensively then it’s worth looking at :).

Another Great Option

A lot of people get great results with Rowe Casa’s Feet and Nail Salve. It’s full of antiviral ingredients. Check out the reviews. You’ll see a lot of positive results on warts and fungus too!

  1. Thank you for all that you educate people about! I love and am so thankful for fellow educators. I wanted to share another treatment for warts of all kinds that usually works within a week to two weeks. Tea Tree oil used topically, and Black Walnut and vit. A&D used internally. These hit it from a couple angles. I had over 20 warts when I was a kid, and taking just Vit. A&D got rid of those for me. However, using the anti fungal properties of Black Walnut (Kills candida, fungus, parasites), and Tea Tree oil as well, works rapidly. I have suggested that people use it every day, and just take 2 Black Walnut capsules and 2-3 vit. A&D a day (depending on what kind they have) along with 1-2 daily applications of Tea Tree oil to the wart itself. People have been stunned by how well this works. It also helps kill off other fungus in their bodies. I have never been told that it caused any kind of cleansing crisis, but if the person was super sick and frail, you would want to deal with that first probably.
On the note of killing candida, I have used Black Walnut with great results. I and the women in my family have blood sugar issues however, so recently, I started taking Goldenseal to help lower my blood sugar if I happen to eat something sweet. This seems to prevent the crazy outbreak of yeast so that I don’t have to take Black Walnut or deal with the cleansing of yeast. Just wanted to pass that along.
The urine treatment is new to me in this arena, fascinating. We use a lot of muscle testing so that we can see how each individual’s body would respond to a select treatment and dosage. I will have to start testing for the use of urine. We have used urine in homeopathic form etc. to give to a person to build antibodies to what is in their urine.

    1. How interesting about the goldenseal. How much do you take? How do you use the homeopathic form of urine?

    2. My nurse tells me that to get rid of diabetes or not get it to take a tablespoon of coconut oil 3 times a day to control blood your sugar.

  2. Hi, I wanted to know did you put the piece of cotton on the warts all day or just for some time daily ? My son who is 14 mos has something on his heel and been there since January. His doc doesn’t think its a wart but then said it could be. So I am trying to be proactive with natural treatments. Currently am putting organic turmeric powder mixed with mustard seed oil to create a paste on it with a bandaid over it .

  3. I have a plantar wart on the side of my second finger in on my right hand ( it is large ) the root goes under the nail , you name it i have tried it ( approx over 20 years it has been there) my nail has been removed three times then the wart removed , just keeps coming back , ice , lazer, banana’s duct tape, s0 if anyone can help me ? my ears are open?

    pct

    1. I can’t medically advise, of course, but could you get the nail removed and try the remedy recommended here? Perhaps someone else can chime in. So sorry for your condition.

  4. One more thing I wanted to add for readers. I had a wart on my toe as a child. I picked at it so it spread to my fingers. My mom took me to freeze them off. Didn’t work. So she took my to lazer them off. They first gave me shots to numb the areas. Then you actually smell the laser burning it away. They never returned and I still have small scars from about 20 years ago. But thank God the lazer worked. If none of these remedies work for you. Try lazer as freezing did not help me.

  5. Glad you found more information! I read it can heal pink eye, sore throat, and ear infections (just put a few drops in infected ear). Someone working in law enforcement once told me that if they were shot they were instructed to apply their urine on the wound. I never understood why until recently. It prevents infection. If you rub it on your face it can cure acne plus makes you very soft. It can heal cold sores on the lips and sores in the mouth. Doctors know the healing power of Urine that’s why it is used in medicine. But how can they profit if people use their own? It’s free! Urine is a by product of the blood. Blood is pure. Uribe is not a toxic waste as we are taught. I luv your blog! Thank you for sharing valuable information.

    1. You are a wealth of information. I started breaking out this week ……. more than I have in a long time. You are so right about the profit motive. Makes me sick. I appreciate you too — so nice to meet others who are seeing the flaws in the system. Take care!

  6. I have read so much about urine therapy. It is good for our skin, very moisturizing. It is in many face creams and is the base of many medications- if people only knew they are putting animal urine on or in their bodies. I would rather use my own 🙂 it can heal tooth aches and pretty much any mouth issue I have read. People used to white their teeth with it- the Romans I believe.

    1. No kidding. Well, thanks for sharing. I have more reading to do. Hope to hear from you again!

    2. You were right :). (Link deleted by Whole New Mom due to it not working anymore.) And gunpowder. Who’s have thought?

  7. I heard about the Banaba peel but needs to be platain or green Banaba not when they ripe or yellow

  8. I think I may try the oregano oil first since I think my kids would LOVE to try the pee method, then tell EVERYONE about it. But seriously, I’ve heard so many first hand positive experiences with urine treatments, I may just give it a try on my girls. One has a wart on her foot. She is so active, but it hurts her so much, it’s holding her back from having fun. The other has several small warts on her hand. It doesn’t bother her, but they seem to be multiplying. Thank you so much for not just listing these remedies, but showing us your own experience. You are brave and awesome!!!

    1. Oh how funny about telling her friends. Well, they might seem odd to their friends, but it could start a small revolution of natural healing….which we all need. Thanks!

  9. Over the past few years, I have tried several different methods to get rid of plantar warts on both feet. Duct tape didn’t work for me because it wouldn’t stay on my feet. I had limited success with the Dr. Scholls freeze away, and the same limited success with other salicylic acid products – the warts seemed to go away, but returned within a few months. About 3 weeks ago I tried a combination of two things. Every night before bed, I applied 2% tincture of iodine to each wart and once the iodine was dry, I applied a layer of clear nail polish. Within a few days of this treatment, I noticed that the warts were no longer painful or uncomfortable to walk on, and within a week, they were gone. I did continue the treatment for several more weeks to be certain that they were completely gone, and so far so good. Hope this helps.

    1. Thanks! So glad you are doing better. I don’t like the smell of nail polish though, but I am sure it will help someone else :).

  10. When you were going through this treatment with your son, was it painful for him when walking? I have tried some DIY treatments on a plantar wart I have had on the ball of my foot for 10 years, and each time it is so painful that I can hardly walk once it gets to the later stages of the treatment. This was the same when I had it removed by a doctor (it came back like you said you heard). Just wondering what kind of pain this method enduces. I’m a teacher and on my feet all day, so I’m a little nervous to try again.

    1. One of my boys’ warts were painful, but I don’t think that the other one’s were big enough to hurt. I am so sorry. This method wasn’t painful at all for either of them. I so hope it helps you!
