Are you burdened by a stubborn wart? Here’s an assortment of natural remedies for warts, including one unbelievable one that really worked!
Would YOU try it?

I’m always on the hunt for natural remedies to treat ear infections, sinus infections, headaches, and more.
I’m just not a fan of prescription meds, or even OTC medications, mainly since one of the things that contributed to my health issues (including candida) is the overuse of meds and antibiotics in general.
So when warts surfaced in our home, I was not about to just run to the store to get an OTC wart remover – and I for sure wasn’t ready to pay $30 (how did it get that high?!) for a physician copay to have it removed from my son’s foot.
Warts are not a pleasant topic.
If you’ve ever had a wart, you know how hard it can be to get rid of it.
And it’s worse if you’ve got more than one wart. Once they start spreading they can really be tough to get rid of.
About 1 month ago I was helping my youngest get changed for bed. I don’t remember now what happened or why I noticed it, but I saw two small “somethings” on the sole of his foot, near the heel.

I wouldn’t have thought much of them, except for the fact that I remembered having a plantar’s wart when I was a young girl.
It was painful and it took a long time to get rid of it.
I think we went to the store and got an over-the-counter wart remover and I applied it over and over again.
And they’re gross.
Back to my son.
I took a closer look at his foot and scraped a little of the surface off of the skin.
It felt hard underneath, and I could see the tell-tale little brownish-black dots in the center of a pattern.
The dots are called wart seeds sometimes, but they really are little blood clots.
Blech.
Anyway, he clearly had two of them.
Then, my son showed me a “callus” on his toe.
Hmmmm…..
It was a big one. But was it really a callus?
I went to the internet and found a site with great diagnostic information to find out if he had a callus or wart on his foot.
How to Know If You Have a Wart or a Callus
To tell know if you have a wart or callus, you will need to press down on the thing (whatever it is) and find out when you have pain.
- If it hurts pushing straight down on it–it’s a callus.
- If it hurts putting pressure on the sides (by squeezing it)–it’s a wart.
Sure enough, we had a wart. No pain pressing down, but when I squeezed it, my son wasn’t happy.
Now it was time to try to get rid of warts.
Time to Get Rid of the Wart
A long time ago, we had tried using oregano oil before on a wart on my husband’s finger.
One day we were on a road trip. I put the oregano oil on it and within 3 hours it went from being a raised wart to being level with the rest of his skin.
It really worked great for a natural wart remedy, but we weren’t consistent enough to get rid of it, so it’s still there.
So I tried the oregano oil on my son’s foot for several days.
Again, I wasn’t consistent enough and no surprise–nothing happened.
I really wanted to be consistent with the oregano oil, but life was getting in the way.
So I hopped back on the internet and even asked my fans on my Facebook page for their ideas. (hop on over there if you haven’t already, K?)
Well, let me tell you, there were loads of ideas….
Natural Remedies for Warts
Following are some remedies that others suggested, plus some others that we didn’t get to try.
OTC Topical Treatments
(not going there again)
Super Glue
Doesn’t sounds very healthy to me.
Organic Apple Cider Vinegar
I did this once for a wart on my hand. It ended up burning the surrounding skin and was super painful.
Banana Peel
The inside of the peel. It turns out that the inside of the banana peel has some kind of enzyme that can help address warts.
Cutting
Some people try to just cut their own warts off (Not an option. No way.)
Removal By a Physician
Sounds like a good option, but I’ve read over and over that the wart often comes back. This was the case for one of my son’s friends.
Thuja
Thuja Oil, Thuja Extract, or Thuja Homeopathic pellets. A reader mentioned that this worked well, but I haven’t tried it yet.
Vapor Rub
It’s true. Some people report that using Vicks® or a Homemade Vapor Rub works great for addressing warts.
Tea Tree Oil
I didn’t try this one, but a friend told me that she tried it and it worked great!
Echaveria
One reader wrote in to say that this plant, also known as the common garden ‘hens and chickens’ and often grown in succulent gardens and rock gardens. Simply break off a leaf and squeeze the juice onto the wart morning and night!
Garlic
One reader mentioned that a slice of garlic on the wart worked well. That makes sense since warts are caused by a virus and garlic is antiviral.
Milkweed
Milkweed juice applied daily has been reported to help with warts.
Milk Thistle Extract
Since milk thistle is also antiviral this has been successful for some as well.
Basil
This is another antiviral plant that works for some to get rid of warts. You can crush a few leaves of fresh basil and rub the paste on the warts, or apply the crushed leaves over the warts and cover that with medical or duct tape.
Aspirin
The main ingredient in aspirin is salicylic acid, the main ingredient in wart remover. One reader told me that putting a paste of aspirin on the wart for 2-3 days with tape over it caused the wart to come off and never return!
and other concoctions of all sorts. However one option really caught my eye.
Urine.
Yeppers. You all remember my post on natural ear infection remedies, right?
Well, at the time I tried that in my son’s ear (of course, after reading all over the internet that urine therapy has been used by many cultures for many years and there was even an international convention on it–so don’t think I’m just so crazy that I’ll try anything that I read on the internet–’cause I’m not), I was already trying this on my son’s warts.
But I wasn’t sure if it was going to take care of the more stubborn ones so I didn’t want to share it yet.
Well, now you can see how well this natural wart remedy worked and judge for yourself.

How to Use Urine on a Wart
Basically you just urinate in a cup, put the urine on a small piece of cotton ball or pad.
Squeeze to remove the excess.
Put the soaked pad or cotton ball on the wart.
Cut medical tape in the appropriate size to cover the wart and the cotton. At least you need the cotton to stay put.
Repeat daily.
We did this for a few weeks. It would have gone faster if I’d remembered to change the cotton daily, but sometimes I forgot.
But every day we noticed an obvious change in the big wart.

This is what his toe looked like after the “pee pee treatment” was done!

All gone except for some peeling skin.
And the other warts are gone as well.
Even while we were treating the first 3, one more showed up on the other foot (lovely) and that one is gone as well.
Now, I am thinking the oregano oil would have worked if I had been more diligent, but I would forget sometimes and frankly, urine is a lot cheaper.
But if you’re squeemish about the urine therapy, then hop over to Rocky Mountain Oils and get some oregano oil. It’s great stuff and is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. I’ve even heard of folks treating MRSA successfully with it. Now that’s something to have on hand, you know?
If you’re curious about what essential oils company I recommend, you can read my series on Which Essential Oils Company is Best.
One Amazing Testimonial About Urine on a Wart
But I tried the urine also because the testimonials were so emphatic.
One was even pretty hilarious.
A man said his whole family had been plagued by plantar warts–except for him.
He thought it was because he had the habit of urinating in the shower, so he thought his feet were getting a natural anti-wart treatment every day.
I don’t know, but interesting, huh?
Urine Therapy for Warts–Is It Crazy?
Likely you think this is just gross and NUTS, right?
Well, check out this book – it’s got some very nice reviews.
I say – if you can get things done naturally and inexpensively then it’s worth looking at :).
Another Great Option
A lot of people get great results with Rowe Casa’s Feet and Nail Salve. It’s full of antiviral ingredients. Check out the reviews. You’ll see a lot of positive results on warts and fungus too!
Which of these Natural Remedies for Warts will you try?

10+ on each foot came back after many applications of blister beetle extract – totally painful, don’t do it. After applying coconut oil as hand and foot lotion, just like you would for dry skin every day or two for a couple months.
They just vanished with no pain, no peeling skin, no tape or bandaids, just a quick massage of coconut oil then clean socks. I wasn’t trying to treat the plantar warts, so I don’t have any data. Use I have a special container to avoid the dreaded ‘cup confusion.’
No kidding. That’s GREAT!
several years ago, i got a random plantar wart on my foot, which turned out to be a subtle hint from my body about candida and deeper troubles and blah blah blah, but anyways… i tried a few different home remedies, including vinegar, duct tape, tea tree oil, and some others, but nothing was working. the wart was really painful and making life difficult. just so happened, my sweetheart and i were on a business trip and had a chance to visit the ocean. after a walk along the beach and ankle deep in the water (i’m actually scared of the ocean!), we stopped at a hotel for the night before heading home. i got in the shower, and that plantar wart just washed right out of my skin and down the drain, never to bother me again. i swore if it ever happened again, i would get some “instant ocean” and soak in it! well, about four years later, i got two plantar warts on my foot, one underneath my toenail. blech! i soaked in a combination of apple cider vinegar and warm water with plenty of sea salt (just the kind i use for cooking) – every day for about 10-20 minutes – it took about a week to get it all cleaned up. i’m not all about urine, although i’m not against anyone else using it, because i do agree it should work; just saying, if you think that’s icky, i would highly recommend the sea salt water.
What a great story! So interesting that it was so quick the first time but took longer the 2nd. Thanks for the tip and hope to see you around again!
Hi! Could you tell me more info about the candida? I had read about this and was wondering if it could be my problem. How does it effect you and how was is diagnosed? Any info is GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!
Hi Carolyn- this should help. https://wholenewmom.com/health-concerns/what-candida-is-how-to-know-if-you-have-it-and-how-to-ditch-it/
This too :). https://wholenewmom.com/health-concerns/what-is-candida-the-beginning-of-my-sugar-free-lifestyle/
I suffered with those warts on my heel and arch for over 10 years. Then I put colloidal silver on them.. I made it myself with batteries and silver wire. Just a drop or two on a band-aide everyday and they were completely
gone in 4 days.and they were very deep to start with.
That’s great to hear. I would be nervous about using DIY silver internally but you are a DIYer for sure. Envious :).
I have had a very stubborn wart on my heel that bas resisted every freeze and otc remedies. I even cut it off and back it comes. I will try the tree tea oil, oregano oil, then, maybe the urine. thanx
You’re welcome. Hope it helps!!!
Just wanted to mention that there are finger protectors (think condoms) that you can roll on to protect/cover up the offending urine soaked bandage. I would vastly prefer that to wearing gloves during meal prep. They have them with the bandages at the drug store.
I also use them anytime I have a cut that requires a bandaid on a finger. I am constantly washing my hands and refuse to have to replace wet bandaids all the time!
Our experience with plantar warts has been resolved by soaking the foot in warm (for comfort) apple cider vinegar for about 20 minutes every day. I would heat the vinegar in the microwave (not sure if that is bad for the “active” parts of it, but it’s always still worked for us) then place it on a heating pad set to high and have my daughters sit and read or watch tv until the time was up. We’ve never had a stinging problem, only wrinkly, stinky feet 😉 Wash that foot and off she goes. It takes a few weeks, but we always miss a few days here and there. I would store the cider in a Tupperware that fits the foot and reuse it 4-5 times before replacing with fresh.
I will say that as my girls have only had one wart at a time I would have preferred to just wet a bit of cotton with ACV and applied with a bandaid, but they never stick! Not even duct tape sticks on their skin. And my youngest’s wart was on the side of one of her toes, band aids always work their way off and are uncomfortable to boot. Soaking, while a little time consuming was an easy and relaxing way to treat the warts.
By the way, we did first try some traditional OTC methods, to no avail. They “may” work on the body or hands, but plantar warts get compressed into the body, making it very difficult for topical OTC meds to work. I prefer the more creative and natural methods. If any more crop up I may try the urine, but I’d have to find band aids that actually stick!!
Hi there. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you — I have been inundated with so many things. I’m betting that heating the ACV isn’t good for it but glad it helped you!!! Nice tips. The duct tape worked for me for some reason. Hope to hear from you again!
tea tree oil
clean feet before bed
pure oil on wart, cover w/band aid
7 nights
lotsa love
gone
son was in 3rd grade, he is 26 (may 1st) & has never again had a wart
Nice – thanks!
I’ve been doing that with my almost 5 year old – she’s been plagued with warts since she was a toddler. The last time they spread so quickly, and on her face, we had the largest one on her hand injected with something (I don’t remember now) and within a week they all started to disappear!
She now has one (over a year wart free) under her big toe. I’ve been treating it with tea tree oil for over a month, putting some on a cotton ball then covering with duct tape (bandaids don’t seem to stick) and it’s not going away. GRR!! We’ve done just duct tape as well but its really hard to keep on that area. Was the wart you treated on your son very big at the time? I’m wondering if I’m just dealing with a harder-to-kill-than-normal wart??
Just to be clear, seven years not seven warts!!!
Sure :). And of course, none of this constitutes medical advice. Just telling you what I would do.
Thank you for your post by the way, I would never have known to do this if you hadn’t posted this material. There is of course an ick! factor but I am hyper-vigilant with cleanliness around my treatment. I wouldn’t be doing this if I weren’t desperate to be rid of this scourge.
:). Thanks much!
So heres the thing, I have had warts on my hands for several years, think maybe seven? I have tried everything and I was really desperate so I decided to try a combination of urine and garlic. it seems to be working as the warts are turning dark coloured and shrivelling up, but my concern is that today one started to bleed, I don’t want to go to the doctor because the freezing treatment didn’t work but I’m worried that this could be cancerous. Is the bleeding normal or is it a sign of cancer? Please let me know if you know anything or you find something out on the internet about this problem.
I have no idea but I know when I got down to the base w/ my warts as a child they bled. It was very painful and icky looking. I would call your doctor if I were you and talk to a nurse. Hope that helps.
I have one wart on the side of my left hand (been “burned” off many times-all unsuccessful) and a second wart right by the quick of my thumbnail on my right hand (an extremely tender place–no way could it be burned off-ouch!) My question: How long do you leave the urine-soaked Band-Aids on? Does it have to be 24/7 and then changed the next night, or only overnight? Can you see my problem with urine soaked Band-Aids while trying to prepare food?
I left them on 24/7 and changed them each night. I think you could do it as much as you like. It doesn’t need to be soaked – just enough to have urine on the wart. You could use latex type gloves while this is going on if necessary. Hope that helps!
Interesting. … I may try this. Do you have a link to the aforementioned Facebook post with the comments?
I don’t. I am not sure how I would find that – I don’t think there’s a search function for pages. Do you know differently?
Unfortunately, there’s not a search function of that nature on Facebook. If you can recall the approximate date, I can scroll through your posts.
Sorry, but I don’t. The post was initially published around 4/13 so that might help. Thanks.
There’s mention of it in this post: https://www.facebook.com/WholeNewMom/posts/469494023104884
Great – thanks! Glad you found it!
