Are you burdened by a stubborn wart? Here’s an assortment of natural remedies for warts, including one unbelievable one that really worked!
Would YOU try it?

I’m always on the hunt for natural remedies to treat ear infections, sinus infections, headaches, and more.
I’m just not a fan of prescription meds, or even OTC medications, mainly since one of the things that contributed to my health issues (including candida) is the overuse of meds and antibiotics in general.
So when warts surfaced in our home, I was not about to just run to the store to get an OTC wart remover – and I for sure wasn’t ready to pay $30 (how did it get that high?!) for a physician copay to have it removed from my son’s foot.
Warts are not a pleasant topic.
If you’ve ever had a wart, you know how hard it can be to get rid of it.
And it’s worse if you’ve got more than one wart. Once they start spreading they can really be tough to get rid of.
About 1 month ago I was helping my youngest get changed for bed. I don’t remember now what happened or why I noticed it, but I saw two small “somethings” on the sole of his foot, near the heel.

I wouldn’t have thought much of them, except for the fact that I remembered having a plantar’s wart when I was a young girl.
It was painful and it took a long time to get rid of it.
I think we went to the store and got an over-the-counter wart remover and I applied it over and over again.
And they’re gross.
Back to my son.
I took a closer look at his foot and scraped a little of the surface off of the skin.
It felt hard underneath, and I could see the tell-tale little brownish-black dots in the center of a pattern.
The dots are called wart seeds sometimes, but they really are little blood clots.
Blech.
Anyway, he clearly had two of them.
Then, my son showed me a “callus” on his toe.
Hmmmm…..
It was a big one. But was it really a callus?
I went to the internet and found a site with great diagnostic information to find out if he had a callus or wart on his foot.
Enter your email and I'll send it straight to your inbox. Plus, you'll get healthy living updates too.
How to Know If You Have a Wart or a Callus
To tell know if you have a wart or callus, you will need to press down on the thing (whatever it is) and find out when you have pain.
- If it hurts pushing straight down on it–it’s a callus.
- If it hurts putting pressure on the sides (by squeezing it)–it’s a wart.
Sure enough, we had a wart. No pain pressing down, but when I squeezed it, my son wasn’t happy.
Now it was time to try to get rid of warts.
Time to Get Rid of the Wart
A long time ago, we had tried using oregano oil before on a wart on my husband’s finger.
One day we were on a road trip. I put the oregano oil on it and within 3 hours it went from being a raised wart to being level with the rest of his skin.
It really worked great for a natural wart remedy, but we weren’t consistent enough to get rid of it, so it’s still there.
So I tried the oregano oil on my son’s foot for several days.
Again, I wasn’t consistent enough and no surprise–nothing happened.
I really wanted to be consistent with the oregano oil, but life was getting in the way.
So I hopped back on the internet and even asked my fans on my Facebook page for their ideas. (hop on over there if you haven’t already, K?)
Well, let me tell you, there were loads of ideas….
Natural Remedies for Warts
Following are some remedies that others suggested, plus some others that we didn’t get to try.
OTC Topical Treatments
(not going there again)
Super Glue
Doesn’t sounds very healthy to me.
Organic Apple Cider Vinegar
I did this once for a wart on my hand. It ended up burning the surrounding skin and was super painful.
Banana Peel
The inside of the peel. It turns out that the inside of the banana peel has some kind of enzyme that can help address warts.
Cutting
Some people try to just cut their own warts off (Not an option. No way.)
Removal By a Physician
Sounds like a good option, but I’ve read over and over that the wart often comes back. This was the case for one of my son’s friends.
Thuja
Thuja Oil, Thuja Extract, or Thuja Homeopathic pellets. A reader mentioned that this worked well, but I haven’t tried it yet.
Vapor Rub
It’s true. Some people report that using Vicks® or a Homemade Vapor Rub works great for addressing warts.
Tea Tree Oil
I didn’t try this one, but a friend told me that she tried it and it worked great!
Echaveria
One reader wrote in to say that this plant, also known as the common garden ‘hens and chickens’ and often grown in succulent gardens and rock gardens. Simply break off a leaf and squeeze the juice onto the wart morning and night!
Garlic
One reader mentioned that a slice of garlic on the wart worked well. That makes sense since warts are caused by a virus and garlic is antiviral.
Milkweed
Milkweed juice applied daily has been reported to help with warts.
Milk Thistle Extract
Since milk thistle is also antiviral this has been successful for some as well.
Basil
This is another antiviral plant that works for some to get rid of warts. You can crush a few leaves of fresh basil and rub the paste on the warts, or apply the crushed leaves over the warts and cover that with medical or duct tape.
Aspirin
The main ingredient in aspirin is salicylic acid, the main ingredient in wart remover. One reader told me that putting a paste of aspirin on the wart for 2-3 days with tape over it caused the wart to come off and never return!
and other concoctions of all sorts. However one option really caught my eye.
Urine.
Yeppers. You all remember my post on natural ear infection remedies, right?
Well, at the time I tried that in my son’s ear (of course, after reading all over the internet that urine therapy has been used by many cultures for many years and there was even an international convention on it–so don’t think I’m just so crazy that I’ll try anything that I read on the internet–’cause I’m not), I was already trying this on my son’s warts.
But I wasn’t sure if it was going to take care of the more stubborn ones so I didn’t want to share it yet.
Well, now you can see how well this natural wart remedy worked and judge for yourself.

How to Use Urine on a Wart
Basically you just urinate in a cup, put the urine on a small piece of cotton ball or pad.
Squeeze to remove the excess.
Put the soaked pad or cotton ball on the wart.
Cut medical tape in the appropriate size to cover the wart and the cotton. At least you need the cotton to stay put.
Repeat daily.
We did this for a few weeks. It would have gone faster if I’d remembered to change the cotton daily, but sometimes I forgot.
But every day we noticed an obvious change in the big wart.

This is what his toe looked like after the “pee pee treatment” was done!

All gone except for some peeling skin.
And the other warts are gone as well.
Even while we were treating the first 3, one more showed up on the other foot (lovely) and that one is gone as well.
Now, I am thinking the oregano oil would have worked if I had been more diligent, but I would forget sometimes and frankly, urine is a lot cheaper.
But if you’re squeemish about the urine therapy, then hop over to Rocky Mountain Oils and get some oregano oil. It’s great stuff and is anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. I’ve even heard of folks treating MRSA successfully with it. Now that’s something to have on hand, you know?
If you’re curious about what essential oils company I recommend, you can read my series on Which Essential Oils Company is Best.
One Amazing Testimonial About Urine on a Wart
But I tried the urine also because the testimonials were so emphatic.
One was even pretty hilarious.
A man said his whole family had been plagued by plantar warts–except for him.
He thought it was because he had the habit of urinating in the shower, so he thought his feet were getting a natural anti-wart treatment every day.
I don’t know, but interesting, huh?
Urine Therapy for Warts–Is It Crazy?
Likely you think this is just gross and NUTS, right?
Well, check out this book – it’s got some very nice reviews.
I say – if you can get things done naturally and inexpensively then it’s worth looking at :).
Another Great Option
A lot of people get great results with Rowe Casa’s Feet and Nail Salve. It’s full of antiviral ingredients. Check out the reviews. You’ll see a lot of positive results on warts and fungus too!
Which of these Natural Remedies for Warts will you try?
I’ve heard of urine therapy for many things but not warts. (I throw urine in my compost bin and fed it diluted to my plants). I used potatoe skin on my family’s warts. Worked every time. From a fresh potatoe, slice a small piece off and tape to the wart. I only did the treatment at night. That worked most of the time. For really stubborn warts, I would keep a piece on all the time, putting a fresh piece on daily. With a clean emery board, I would file daily as well. It worked for all warts, on the feet as well as the hands.
Very interesting. Thanks.
How are you all keeping the duct tape on your feet? My son is very active in sports and unless I wrap his entire foot in tape, it comes off along with the cotton soaked in urine.
Hmmm..our warts were on the toes. I guess you just might need a little more tape, but I wouldn’t think the whole food would need to be wrapped.
So, you couldn’t remember to do the oregano oil, but you could the urine? I’m certainly not squeamish, but I’m not sure how it would be easier to remember a pee soaked cotton ball over oregano oil, because consistency is our problem too.
I know- it’s odd, but I got quicker action w/ the urine. So even if I missed a day it kept working well. Thanks!
helli great tip that l know urine works for snake bites and helps with ear infection etc.wil def give it a shot for warts
Thanks!
OTC stuff including vinegar and salicylic acid, nitrogen freezing, duct tape, etc all did not work for my plantar warts on the bottom of my toes after several months of self treatment. I started regular visits to the podiatrist every 4 weeks. He would shave off a little bit of the thick dead skin and then add Cantharidin to create a blister. It was painful for a few days afterwards. After about 6 treatments I have been wart-free for several years now.
Glad to hear you are better!! Noticed you didn’t try the urine though :).
Thanks, for the reply! I believe it is the same virus , but do you know if I can use my urine or do I somehow catch my dogs urine, which may be kind of tricky? Iwould greatly appreciate your reply. I have two dogs that suffer from this virus!
Sorry – I have no idea. I would think it doesn’t matter whose it is b/c it’s what is in the urine but I can’t medically advise.
Does anyone know if it works on dogs ? Either the oil or the urine! Must I try to collect the dogs own or do you think that mine would work, I’m not sure if it is a chemical balance or not! I would really like to know if anyone had tried it on dogs and what the outcome was.
I would think so – do you know if it’s the same virus?
Your website is great- thank you for all of your efforts! In regard to this treatment, not to be gross, but does the urine need to be fresh daily? Could I, for example, mix in a little frankincense essential oil and keep it in a dropper bottle to use for the week? I can’t tell my 4 year old, who has a wart on her hand, I’m putting her pee on it- facebook has nothing on her ability to spread the word- so I thought I could try the “dropper bottle” disguise method. Thoughts? And thanks again for all you do.
Hi there. I really don’t know and I can’t personally recommend that due to the issue of any germs that could be in there (technically urine is sterile, but when it comes outside of the body it isn’t any longer) could multiply. I guess you could send folks to my blog if they are grossed out when she tells them :)? Then they hopefully won’t think you’re crazy :).
My daughter had a terrible time getting rid of a couple plantar warts on her foot. After about 2 years trying every kind of treatment we had heard to get rid of them, she had it frozen off at a dermatologist. She and I think that th Doctor was trying to burn a hole into the top side of her foot. My husband ended up taking her the immediate care center because the blister that formed from the freezing had literally become the size of a quarter and swollen to the point she had to use crutches to walk. By great chance, the doctor was an older doctor from India. He told his story of walking across America for three months and blister after blister and how to best care for them.
Ok back to the wart. He said that his daughter had been plagued with warts. She took Thuja and has never had a wart return. Thuja, a homeopathic remedy, rids your body of the virus that causes warts. Now we tell everyone. Certainly wish we had that option before the awful pain and trauma of burning it out.
Thanks! I’ve been looking heavily into homeopathy and am very intrigued. Sorry for replying late – I’ve been swamped and am trying to catch up.
Thanks for this great info, which I am promptly trying today, oregano oil is amazing, and I am pretty sure we’ll have good results for my teen.
I hope so!
I’ve got a majorly stubborn and painful plantar wart on my foot and four small kids who pee a lot. I know what I’ll be doing before bedtimes each night for the next several weeks;)
we’ve had great success using Vitamin E – this is an interesting post and the info is new to us! Our teenagers both had numerous plantar warts and of course, being teens, neither said a word about it until their feet had multiple warts. By the time we became aware their feet were a mess! Our oldest tried the duct tape method and it “sort of” worked but given that both are athletic, time in ice skates/training shoes meant it was difficult for the tape to stay put for very long. so success was limited. Then I heard a talk by an RN who had discovered that when she began grinding her own flour from organic wheat berries that her children’s warts disappeared. Upon further investigating she discovered that freshly ground flour contains vast amounts of nutrients that even store bought organic flour has lost due to the time between grinding the flour and it’s availability in the grocery store and one of those nutrients was significantly higher levels of vit.E and that is what she attributed the disappearing warts to. So…. figuring we had nothing to lose, we had the kids take one 500 mg Vit. E capsule /day and within a short time (two months or less) ALL of their had disappeared. .
Glad it worked!
We use a tincture of black Walnut and wormwood internally to get rid of my daughter’s warts when she was 4yo. To this day when she has to take icky tasting supplements or herbal medicines, she comments that it’s not as Black Walnut and Wormwood. It worked but it’s truly revolting stuff.
Oh interesting. Is that safe for a young child to take? Just as a caution to my readers, please check w/ your practitioner before adding any supplements to yours or your child’s regimen.
When my young son developed a plantars wart and the doctor said freezing is painful, I came up with this. A thin slice of a fresh garlic clove and a tiny sqeeze of garlic juice to the wart and covered with semi trasnsparent medical tape ( because it stays stuck unlike a bandage). Repeat daily for 3 days. Then, using a sterile sewing needle (heat needle 3 seconds under a flame) and a magnifying glass, gently scrape the calased skin of the wart exposing the black core of the wart and remove the black stem (about half inch long) with tweezers. I think removing this is key like removing the stinger from a wasp sting. Soak foot in hot salted water for a few minutes. Dry well and apply polysporine covered by medical tape. Repeat this for 2-3 days then expose foot to air. And that did the trick–all gone never came back. Garlic is a GREAT antibiotic.
Thanks for sharing!!
My son has a corn between his big toe and the second toe. The medicated corn pads are only removing the surrounding skin and not the sore center. Would you recommend urine in treating this? Thanks for the help!
I just read an article on line that referred to corns and stated this: “Soaking your feet in urine is an old wives trick for dealing with a whole host of foot problems. It is effective because Urea is good at dissolving the inter-cellular matrix which exists between the skin cells and so helps the skin to shed the outer layers of cells. It is great for thickened skin and corns if you can face it. Urine is also a good disinfectant and so it will deal with lots of infections. If you live on a farm cow dung can be used to great effect.

Hope that helps!
I never had reason to try it but I read years ago that duct tape alone could remove warts. Just cut piece to cover and change every few days. Again I never had reason the use but thought I’d put it out there.
Thanks!!
Ok. I guess I didn’t read all the comments and realize that you have to dilute oregano oil. I used it full strength and taped off the spot I wanted to treat. It BURNED me. I mean it feels like third degree burns. Now I have to treat those. It was burning when I put it on but I read it would do that so I didn’t think anything of it. I slept with it on. BE AWARE oregano oil will BURN. Three times the size of the area I was treating is affected. It HURTS. Don’t do what I did.
Yes, it’s very burning. I had that kind of thing happen w/ apple cider vinegar. Not fun! Take care of yourself. Do you have a good healing cream?
I know it sounds gross, but if you are healthy and no UTIs, bladder or kidney problems, urine is clean. In situations where water is unavailable, people have drunk urine to survive. So, while I don’t have any warts, I would try this. As you said – it’s a free test.
Thanks, Nadine!
Thanks! Plan to keep applying it. Do you know on average how long you have to put the oil or urine on until the wart goes away?
Hi there. Sorry but I don’t know. I think it all depends on the size of the wart and your body.
Thanks! How long you think it will take?
I have no idea. Sorry. Probably depends on a number of factors.
