Depending on what your perspective is, Planned Parenthood is known either as a women’s healthcare provider or an abortion mill. Whatever your thoughts are, I think you’ll be surprised by the information in this post.

Facts about Planned Parenthood (including their founder, Margaret Sanger) that you probably don't know. I sure didn't and some of them really surprised me.Pin

At the time of the writing of this post, there were bunch of undercover videos released implicating PPFA in the apparent selling of infant body parts.

These videos have drawn a lot of attention from both the “pro-life” and the “pro-choice” side, with the pro-life side stating that Planned Parenthood has committed felonies by selling human body parts, and many on the pro-choice side stating that the parts are for medical research, and/or that the videos have been doctored.

I am personally disgusted by these videos, but there are many other things about Planned Parenthood that I think deserve the attention of the media and of all U.S. citizens.

Whatever side of the “life/choice” debate you are on, I hope that you will read these, think about them, and keep an open mind as you do so.

I am more than happy to respond to any and all comments, on both sides of the debate. I did my best to do thorough research and encourage conversation about all of these points.

I’d love to hear what you think about this information.

11 Facts About Planned Parenthood

1.  A large amount of Planned Parenthood’s income comes from abortion.

Despite the fact that PP supporters continually claim that abortions comprise only 3% of the services that they provide, abortions are a large part of their income.  In fact, Planned Parenthood made approximately $163,826,500 from abortions in the 2013 – 2014 year, assuming approximately $500 per abortion, which is a low-end estimation.  A second-trimester abortion can cost well over $1,000. For a more detailed explanation of how the 3% claim is inaccurate, go here or here.

Basically, stating that abortion is only 3% of PPFA’s operation is similar to saying that car sales are only a small percentage of a car dealership’s business.  Of course, the dealership provides financing, washes cars, does service on cars, and leases cars, but the primary reason for a car dealer to be in existence is to sell cars.

2.  Prenatal Services amount to only 0.27% of all of Planned Parenthood’s services.

One of the big claims that PPFA makes is that they provide all kinds of services, besides just abortions, including valuable prenatal services. However, they provide almost none of these.  Only 18,684 in 2013 – 2014.

3.  Over 46% of Planned Parenthood’s income comes from taxpayers.

According to Planned Parenthood’s annual report (2013 – 2014), they took in $528,400,000 from “Government Health Services Grants and Reimbursements.”  This amount represents 46.12% of their total income.

4.  Planned Parenthood has provided low-dose birth control pills, planning for failure and more abortions

See the documentation here, and here.  The pills are either received at a PPFA clinic, or PPFA gives out a prescription for the woman to receive them elsewhere.

5.  Planned Parenthood’s founder, Margaret Sanger, Targeted the Elimination of Blacks, Jews, and More.

Here are some quotes attributed to her:

– Referring to immigrants and Catholics, she wrote: “[They’re] an unceasingly spawning class of human beings who never should have been born at all.”

– “We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don’t want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.”  — Margaret Sanger’s December 19, 1939 letter to Dr. Clarence Gamble, 255 Adams Street, Milton, Massachusetts. Original source: Sophia Smith Collection, Smith College, North Hampton, Massachusetts. Also described in Linda Gordon’s Woman’s Body, Woman’s Right: A Social History of Birth Control in America. New York: Grossman Publishers, 1976.

– “[Slavs, Latin, and Hebrew immigrants are] human weeds … a deadweight of human waste … [Blacks, soldiers, and Jews are a] menace to the race.” — Margaret Sanger, April 1933 Birth Control Review

6.  Planned Parenthood’s Founder Advocated Mandatory Sterilization

– “Give dysgenic groups [people with ‘bad genes’] in our population their choice of segregation or [compulsory] sterilization. — Margaret Sanger, April 1932 Birth Control Review.

7.  Planned Parenthood has Aided Sex Trafficking

PPFA has a history of aiding and abetting sex trafficking of girls as young as 14.

8.  Planned Parenthood Has Strong Ties to Euthanasia

There are many ties between The American Birth Control League (which later became Planned Parenthood) and the National Society for the Legalization of Euthanasia.

9.  Planned Parenthood Is Independently Wealthy.

In their 2013-2014 Annual Report, they cite over $1,000,000,000 (1 billion) in net assets.  I feel that their continuing to receive federal (taxpayer) funding when they have this amount of resources at their disposal is unethical, particularly when our nation is currently $18 trillion in debt.  Here is the current debt clock so you can see the current status of our debt to other nations: https://www.usdebtclock.org/.

10.  Planned Parenthood Does Not Provide Mammograms

Contrary to popular belief, the organization only refers for mammograms but has no mammography equipment in any of its clinics.

11.  Planned Parenthood’s President, Cecile Richards, Earned Almost $600,000 in 2013.

Cecile Richards, PPFA’s President earnings in 2013 were $590,928.

The average of the Top 10 PPFA Affiliate’s CEO salaries is over $300,000.  You can see several charts detailing this information here. (Note — this article was removed after the publication of this post, but you can see information on high-paying jobs at PPFA here.)

UPDATE 8/8/15:

12.  Planned Parenthood Targets Minorities

PPFA is willing to accept donations that are earmarked for specific minorities.  Listen to the recordings at the bottom of this article.

Conclusion:

This is, of course, not a debate about whether or not abortion is right or wrong, though I am fine talking about that issue.  This is merely about concerns I have about Planned Parenthood.  About them as a corporation and about what they and their supporters say about them in defense of their practices.

  1. Thank You, Adrienne, for you courage in highlighting facts concerning Planned Parenthood. I have checked two of your disputed sources and found them credible. Many people find it difficult to call evil what it is, no matter the proof displayed.
    Good for You!

    1. Thanks so much, Kathy. I am happy to have readers check my sources. Of course, it’s a little hard to have your writing corrected, but if I don’t allow myself to be challenged then I feel there is no way to have a dialogue. Thanks again.

(Link deleted by Whole New Mom due to it not working anymore)
Adrienne, you are a brave and virtuous human. A great example for the betterment of our current misguided world.

    1. Oh my. That was a very interesting video. I appreciate your kind comments, though I don’t know that I deserve them. I must admit that it is tough to stand up for truth, but I do think we have no choice but to do so. I do know that there is so much pain surrounding this topic and I suspect that those who are opposed to having the truth come out have suffered having an abortion. If so, I only hope that they can be at peace admitting their wrong and acknowledging the truth. We all do wrong and have regrets and just need to seek forgiveness and move on. Take care.

  3. thank you. This is accurate news about Margaret Sanger according to a book that I read a while back. Question: you said that 46% of their funding is from taxpayers. Isn’t 51% of it from abortions? And if so, that seems to leave only 5% coming in from “other services”.

    1. You are welcome. Sorry for the delay in responding. I got overwhelmed w/ comments and other things and am trying to catch up. The #s can be crunched many ways – it all depends on what you are looking at. You have to be careful to keep the same standard for each line item. Hope that helps.

  4. I appreciate you bringing these facts to those who may not have known. Since I read the comments off those choosing to fight theses facts tooth and nail. I have only one comment.
There are many many many things on Facebook, mainstream news, media sources all over that are untrue. So very many people take those facts on blind faith. This article presented proof, however, if you believe it or do not, you should do your duty. Research for yourself. Don’t believe anything until you thoroughly check out out yourself. Listen to all views, don’t limit your knowledge to one source.
This is your life, you should question everything and learn about it yourself.
If you feel this article is deceptive, i hope it leads you to do your own digging, prove it right or wrong. But, but don’t just believe anything you are told, from any source. Always back it up with your own proof.

    1. Thanks, Alice. It is, of course, hard to prove so many things, but I do totally agree with you that we need to look around to make sure (as much as is possible) that things are what they appear to be. Really – what things do we know for sure? Not much. Even science continues to disprove things all the time. Thanks for commenting!

  5. Claim 4 is misleading. The two sources you cite refer to other abortion clinics providing low dose…not Planned Parenthood. I don’t agree with PP and think they should be defended…but let’s present facts. 4 is not a fact.

    1. Hello Rich. Thanks for commenting. Claim #4 actually isn’t misleading but I can see why you are bringing this up. The abortion clinics are working with Planned Parenthood and PPFA is either giving the birth control pills out in the clinic or they prescribe them to be received elsewhere. I am putting another link in the post so you can see this in the words of a nurse who used to work in the industry. Thanks for your help!

  6. This is tragic that there is so much lying that goes on. What can be trusted anymore? One thing I’m amazed at; Why there isn’t more people being responsible when they are “involved” in a relationship. (Single, married or whatever) We hear about young people being sexually involved, and then they have the awareness of abortion being a choice. Well How about the choice of being more responsible when having sex? Doesn’t that make sense? Then we wouldn’t have to have this conversation on abortions at all.?

    1. Yes, there is lying and corruption all over the place. I feel the same way. I think the culture has gone so far that it is just rampant. Hollywood and the media has pushed it a ton and it has clearly been on purpose to sell things and to over-sex the culture. It’s normative now and we are in a very bad place. Thanks for commenting. I really appreciate it.

  7. Thank you for standing up and calling out this organization for what it is. Praying God changes hearts and minds and this holocaust of babies in our nation is finally seen for what it truly is.

    1. Thank you so much, Trisha. I agree. I so hope that folks who are offended by this can seek and find healing too. It’s a tough subject, but one that needs to be dealt with.

  8. Facts are generally found in scientific or analytical studies and reports, not on blogs.
I recently wrote my state representative about the growing assault on women’s’ rights including Planned Parenthood in my state. My state doesn’t want to allow birth control just abstinence and has gone as far to teach only that in high school when my children attended. Even the bible shows that abstinence is very difficult to achieve. Just ask Adam, of course it WAS Eve’s fault .

My issue with the majority of state legislatures is that they are quick to reduce any kind of pre-natal care funds, defund clinics that actually offer free or low cost pre-natal and gynecology care, lower funds for daycare and child health costs yet tout adoption. Not many families want to adopt babies who come into this world addicted, malnourished, and already exhibiting health issues from early ages. In Florida, every day there are 2 to 3 or more toddlers or babies reported dead, murdered, and missing who hail mostly from low income families. Politicians hoping for re-election promote the rhetoric for undermining Planned Parenthood focusing on abortion and never praising them for the wellness and lifesaving services they perform. Did you consider the abortions that arise from rape by a family member? Maybe you should check those statistics. Yes, it is a crime but it still happens more than is reported in the media. .

I am not saying Planned Parenthood is perfect by a long shot, however in many communities they bring hope and much needed care for women, young and old, that need female care. In many rural communities, big cities, and poorer neighborhoods, Planned Parenthood has saved a lot of women and girls lives. Several of my friends went to Planned Parenthood and they gave my friends much needed counseling about their situations. Planned Parenthood is not an abortion revolving door. It is the patient’s choice and that is the way it should be without lawmakers intervention.

Abortions are a PERSONAL CHOICE involving only a few lives. Done correctly, abortion is a last resort and for those of my friends who have had abortions that is exactly what it was. All of them have said it was the hardest decision they ever made.

Society cannot have it both ways, abortions may not be pleasant however, murdering or severely abusing an unwanted child is traumatic and has a devastating effect on families and communities. Abuse and trauma to a child touches many lives and I can speak from personal experience that it is a life long recovery process for that child as they transition through childhood and adulthood.

Whether one believes in abortion or not, the fact remains that a woman’s body is hers and hers alone. No legislative body should be allowed to make decisions for a woman’s reproductive rights. Those same government officials are certainly not making decisions for men’s reproductive rights. Instead of restricting women’s rights how about implanting all single men with birth control so if they are tempted in their single state to procreate then there will be no resulting unwanted babies or legislate a mandatory age for male chastity belts. Or better yet inject cheating husbands and single men with castration drugs so they are simply not interested in procreation until they can be responsible for the results. Sounds crazy but no less than taking away women’s decisons of their reproductive rights.

I read your post on Planned Parenthood and scanned through the posts. Particularly when you respond to Taylor it does become readily apparent that your information was more in line with your particular ethics on abortion, influenced it seems by your own situation.

Kudos to Taylor!! You were right on target with your posts.

About 40 years ago, a close female co-worker told me that she had become pregnant at 16 and she was placed by her parents in a unwed home for pregnant teens. She said it was it was a large institutional home, where the girls were verbally and mentally abused. She said they were virtual prisoners not allowed to leave a fenced yard or the house or have visitors. After she gave birth, the staff whisked her baby away before she could see the child. She had no idea where her child went and they would not tell her. She was told to go home, not to tell anyone about the birth, and be virtuous. When I knew her she was 27 years old and about to be married for the first time. She said all she could think about was her lost baby.

Is an abortion worse than having a baby wrenched from you and disappear with no traceability? Again, a personal choice that only a woman can answer for herself.

I also am going to unsubscribe from your blog because it is difficult for me to understand why a woman would not support any woman’s right to choose what is best for her own body.

    1. Hello Cee.

I really appreciate your commenting. You have a lot of things that you said so I am going to copy and paste them here with my responses to them.

I think you are not correct about this. I have a lot of facts on my blog and I cite studies and reports, and other resources. If we only depended on scientific or analytical studies and reports for our facts, then there would be a lot of things we couldn’t talk about as facts. For example, I know an awful lot about how bread rises, how vinegar kills weeds (and grass, and many other things), what politicians have said, what is happening in other countries, and none of that is published in analytical studies or reports, but still they are facts. Like how the US is now making a deal with Iran wherein there is a secret deal on the side, the contents of which even the US doesn’t know. And even with “analytical studies or reports” there are biases in those as well. Are you familiar with the study on autism and vaccines that has just been proven to have loads of fraud in it that was covered up? This video of the Senate floor might interest you: https://www.c-span.org/video/?c4546421/rep-bill-posey-calling-investigation-cdcs-mmr-reasearch-fraud

Personally I think teaching abstinence is the appropriate way to approach this issue. Why do you think that is too far? I assume you are saying that they should teach appropriate birth control as well? If we give young people (and adults) the expectation that they are going to be sexually active, then they will be more likely to do that. We need to hold the bar higher for our young people, and for the rest of society in so many arenas. Our culture has greatly degraded morally and sexual issues are at the root of much of it. I don’t mean that at all to be judgmental about anyone’s actions, but only to say that we need to try to pull all of society up instead of falling to the lowest common denominator. This article on abstinence only education and teen pregnancies is very interesting: https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/328775/contraception-programs-and-teen-pregnancy-rates-michael-j-new. I don’t understand your reference to Adam and Eve. They were not supposed to be celibate. In fact, God told them to be fruitful and multiply. The sin that was the original sin was eating the apple that was forbidden. Please let me know what you were referring to.

Politicians hoping for re-election promote the rhetoric for undermining Planned Parenthood focusing on abortion and never praising them for the wellness and lifesaving services they perform. Did you consider the abortions that arise from rape by a family member? Maybe you should check those statistics. Yes, it is a crime but it still happens more than is reported in the media. .

I would appreciate your sharing data on the politicians pushing for these reductions. In fact, there are really a lot of reductions that need to be made. We are over $18 trillion in debt and are borrowing so much from China that they basically own us. This is not a sustainable situation and soon we will be in the same situation as Greece. It’s time for our citizens to wake up to the peril that we are in and stop demanding more and more from the government, make stronger families, and try to turn this situation around. As for PPFA’s “wellness and life saving services”, I shared some of the data on the very small amount that those services make up and you can see the data in their annual reports for yourself. This video shows how in actuality, 93.78% of all pregnant women who go to PPFA end up with an abortion. https://adflegal.org/detailspages/blog-details/allianceedge/2015/08/07/the-many-deceptions-of-planned-parenthood-(besides-selling-baby-parts).

I have looked at the rape statistics but am not sure where to look for the statistic that you mentioned. I know that the definition of rape is very fluid. This post, though from a pro-life source, lays out some very interesting facts including a strong call for compassion. (Link deleted by Whole New Mom due to it not working anymore.)

Here is my main concern about rape and abortion. Let me preface this by stating that rape is a horrible thing. I can’t imagine many things worse. I fear that in our increasingly promiscuous culture that this is happening more and more. Even in the military: https://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/02/us/military-sex-assault-report.html Of course, with men and women in such close quarters, and with homosexuals now in the military openly, I can only imagine this increasing. But still, we are talking about killing a child. The reason for killing the baby conceived in rape is that the woman doesn’t want to be reminded of a horrible incident in her life. So the question we must ask is, “Should a mother kill a toddler that reminds her of a horrible incident?”

The situations that you mention about toddlers being killed by low income women is terrible. But I must ask, Why are these little lives more important than the lives of unborn children? Why do we as a culture think that it is OK to kill a 24 week old baby, but not a 24 month old toddler? Or an 8 month old infant?

I am not saying Planned Parenthood is perfect by a long shot, however in many communities they bring hope and much needed care for women, young and old, that need female care. In many rural communities, big cities, and poorer neighborhoods, Planned Parenthood has saved a lot of women and girls lives. Several of my friends went to Planned Parenthood and they gave my friends much needed counseling about their situations. Planned Parenthood is not an abortion revolving door. It is the patient’s choice and that is the way it should be without lawmakers intervention.

I think I laid out in the post the statistics of the care that PPFA provides. Of course they do a lot but most of it is tied to abortions. There are other resources for this counseling and in any case, I do think that there should in no way be public funding for this organization that has been caught aiding and abetting sex trafficking and the selling of babies’ body parts. I would think that you would be disgusted at these things as well so I wonder what you think should be done regarding these issues. Are you just saying that PPFA should exist or are you saying that we should continue to fund them?

Regarding your statement about PPFA not being an “abortion revolving door”, I cite the above video that shows that 93.78% of all pregnant women going to PPFA end up having an abortion. To use your analogy, I would say that this is an almost perfectly working revolving door with very few temporary glitches where someone eeks out before the door starts revolving.

Abortions are a PERSONAL CHOICE involving only a few lives. Done correctly, abortion is a last resort and for those of my friends who have had abortions that is exactly what it was. All of them have said it was the hardest decision they ever made.

I understand your sentiment, but abortion is not a personal choice as it involves another life too, not to mention the father of the child. Could you tell me if you think the baby isn’t worth considering? I totally understand that it is a hard decision to make – but why not make the choice to not kill a child?

Society cannot have it both ways, abortions may not be pleasant however, murdering or severely abusing an unwanted child is traumatic and has a devastating effect on families and communities. Abuse and trauma to a child touches many lives and I can speak from personal experience that it is a life long recovery process for that child as they transition through childhood and adulthood.

I agree with you that society cannot have it both ways — thinking it is OK to murder an unwanted unborn child but thinking it is wrong to murder a child just a few months older.

Whether one believes in abortion or not, the fact remains that a woman’s body is hers and hers alone. No legislative body should be allowed to make decisions for a woman’s reproductive rights. Those same government officials are certainly not making decisions for men’s reproductive rights. Or better yet inject cheating husbands and single men with castration drugs so they are simply not interested in procreation until they can be responsible for the results. Sounds crazy but no less than taking away women’s decisons of their reproductive rights.

I think your point comes down to whether or not you think the unborn baby is a child or not. The father is just as much responsible. You are right. But it takes 2 to procreate. Except in the case of rape and incest there are 2 consenting people involved so the argument about men’s chastity falls apart there. And again, you continue to state that it is just a woman’s body but we are talking about another body within hers. Could you address that please?

I read your post on Planned Parenthood and scanned through the posts. Particularly when you respond to Taylor it does become readily apparent that your information was more in line with your particular ethics on abortion, influenced it seems by your own situation.

Of course I wrote the post based on my ethics of abortion. I personally don’t think that my stand on abortion has anything to do with the fact that I was almost aborted. I think it adds to my argument but I would still be pro life regardless. I still think that unborn babies are humans regardless. Just like I think that the Holocaust was wrong regardless of my Jewish heritage.

Kudos to Taylor!! You were right on target with your posts.

Is an abortion worse than having a baby wrenched from you and disappear with no traceability? Again, a personal choice that only a woman can answer for herself.

That situation is terrible but I don’t see how that makes it OK to murder an unborn baby. That is a false dichotomy — insinuating that if a woman has a baby that it might be taken from her so it would be better to kill the child before it is born.

I also am going to unsubscribe from your blog because it is difficult for me to understand why a woman would not support any woman’s right to choose what is best for her own body

I am sorry that you are doing so and hope that you will reconsider. I think it is crucial to dialogue about difficult issues. If people refuse to talk about issues with others who disagree, then there is no conversation — no changing of minds or hearts to either side. Then there is no progression of the truth. Again, this is not just a woman’s body — it all comes down to whether or not the unborn baby is a person. I don’t know what else anyone could think it is — a blob of tissue? Clearly not or Planned Parenthood couldn’t be selling it for body parts or as a whole body (which it has now been proven that they are doing). A non person b/c it doesn’t have self-actualization? Then should we kill a 2 month old b/c babies that young don’t either. To not consider the unborn baby as a human is a slippery slope that leads to euthanasia and worse. The Nazis considered Jews to be non human and you can see what they ended up doing to them. In reality, we are doing the same to the unborn. Ripping them apart, piece by piece and selling them to the highest bidder. I fear we have done real damage to our souls and to society with this kind of thinking.

I hope you will come back and respond with your thoughts and I don’t mean any of this to disparage you. You clearly have gone through a lot of pain about this issue and you have a lot of deep feelings about it and I respect that. I just think that deep feelings and pain or not, the baby is still a child. Thank you.

      1. Not all teens are going to be abstain from sex. My school taught abstinence only sex-ed and it stop quite a few of my classmates from having sex (protected and unprotected) from having sex at the age of 12. Nor did it do any favors when I was sexually active and didn’t know what I would do if I got pregnant. I do recall having the plan of my then boyfriend punching me in the stomach if anything came up. So no abstinence sex-ed is not effective. A lot of us are lucky we didn’t get STDs or HIV. Plus abstinence only sex education has been shown to not work. It has been proven to lead to higher STD rates and more unwanted pregnancies-and you know what that means? More abortions.
So let’s keep teachings on contraceptives around. Be it you don’t believe in pre-marital sex, or your religion doesn’t condone a certain type of sex that’s fine. What’s not okay is you forcing that on others. We don’t all believe that, or follow our religion. Nor wait till marriage to have sex. We’re all human and we’re all free to live our own lives.

        1. Hi again, Caitlin. Of course not all teens will abstain from sex. I’m not sure I understand your sentence: “it stop quite a few of my classmates from having sex (protected and unprotected) from having sex at the age of 12.”

I also am not sure why teaching abstinence would have anything to do w/ knowing what to do if you get pregnant. That’s a different topic, right? You can teach abstinence and still tell someone about options. Are you saying someone told you to try to induce abortion by having you get punched in the stomach?

There are 2 things that you are talking about – what is effective and what is right and wrong. Here’s a question for you. If there was a school program that taught kids how to use steal without getting caught and then there was another program that taught kids to not to steal, and they did a study and the study showed that under the first program there were fewer thefts, what do you think should be done? Keep teaching how to steal without getting caught? I know that’s not a perfect analogy but my point is that you can’t just talk about efficacy when talking about issues like this. There is right and there is wrong and unfortunately that is something that is often left out of the picture these days.

One option of course would be to teach abstinence as one option.

I assume that you will think that my talking about right and wrong is “high and mighty” or “holier than thou” — but that’s completely not the case. I don’t think I’m better than anyone else–I’m just trying to figure out the truth here. It’s either a good idea for teens to have sex before marriage or it isn’t. What do you think about that?

I don’t think that teaching abstinence is forcing anything on anyone – do you? And of course people are free to live their own lives, but when it encroaches on the life or freedom of someone else then that is when you have a problem.

I would love to know what you think is a good reason for kids to have sex. And I also don’t think that religion is the issue here….even people who are irreligious have ideas about right and wrong. However, one could easily argue that there has to be somewhere that those concepts come from. Do they come from a God whom they don’t want to admit to or did some human being make them up?

  9. It’s so sad to hear that there are so many women get abortion and government need to spend so much money for it. What if those women don’t get abortion. Where will that many unwanted babies go? Foster care? On the street? That means government needs to spend more money to raise them somehow. More shelters, more money for welfare, education, etc. How does that upbringing affect their brain? They know that they are unwanted. Do they deserve to suffer their entire life knowing that?
I wish everyone is smart and responsible enough not to make babies when they are not ready, but not everyone is unfortunately. Without Planned Parenthood, what should those pregnant women do?

    1. Hi Rita. Thanks for commenting. I am one of those “unwanted babies.” My grandparents wanted me to be aborted. Thankfully my mother didn’t do it. I had a not-so-happy childhood but made it. It affected me, but it sure is better than being dead. I have distinct memories thinking about how I was conceived out of wedlock and the term “bastard child” was something I heard in my head at times.

Here’s a question to ponder. Do you think that it is OK for a mother to kill her toddler just because she feels she doesn’t have enough money to raise him/her or because she really doesn’t want the child?

If not, then why is it OK to kill a baby for the same reason. The answer doesn’t lie in permitting more killing — it is in finding a real solution. Stopping the fatherlessness and supporting a culture of strong families and abstinence. We have a long way to go but that is the only thing we can do.
I would love to hear what you think.

      1. Hi Adrienne. You were not “unwanted baby”. Your mother wanted you, loved you, and raised you responsibilly. You don’t understand how painful to be alone since they are born and not be loved by their own parents or anyone.

I also would like to ask you if it is ok to abuse or neglect children. What if a mother doesn’t want her baby but she isn’t allowed to make her choice to get abortion, is it ok she gives up and neglect the baby after birth? She knew she wasn’t able to raise the baby. She can give the baby for adoption, but who knows the baby would have better life or not. Is it ok that she just throw the responsibility to someone like that? You don’t know how hard to be faster kids. You don’t know how unstable their everyday life is. They don’t know when they are adopted, what kind of family wants them, or they are just moved around from foster family to another one. Is it ok kids are treated like unwanted cats and dogs like that?

I don’t understand your definition of “supporting a culture of strong family and abstinence”. If there is no love, how can you do that?

        1. Hi Rita.

In that sense, yes, my mother wanted me. As far as responsible raising, I do not wish to disparage her in public (she passed away a number of years ago), but my childhood was quite tumultuous for numerous reasons. I felt very unloved by my father (and he knows this now and we have a much better relationship now), so I do very much know this feeling, and being rejected by your grandparents isn’t a good feeling either. I had almost no contact with my maternal grandparents my entire life, nor with my uncle, aunt, and cousins on my mother’s side. All for the same reason. Basically – my existence and my mother’s marriage.

No, of course it isn’t OK to abuse and neglect a child.

Let me ask you this – is it OK to kill a toddler for any reason? Just because you think the child will have a tough life? If you knew that a 3 year old was going to face very hard times would you think it OK to kill them now? I am very very concerned about where our world is going with things like ISIS, our country’s debt over $18 trillion now….I fear for my kids. If we were to enter a depression, should I just kill my boys to keep them from the misery?

Do I worry about how bad things will get for all of us? Yes. Daily.

However, God placed us here and we need to deal with the adversity as we can. Do I struggle with this? Very much so.

To support a culture of strong families and abstinence, it comes from the bottom up or the top down. There are a lot of ideas for this, but as a culture we have done totally the opposite in the media and in our financial laws. This article might help. https://www.heritage.org/research/reports/2011/06/a-marshall-plan-for-marriage-rebuilding-our-shattered-homes

We didn’t have these problems long ago – at least not to this magnitude. We have encouraged fatherlessness in many ways and now we bear the brunt of the problem. This article on fatherlessness should be of interest as well: https://www.wnd.com/2014/07/black-fatherless-homes-and-left-creating-cop-killers/

I would appreciate hearing what you think. And thanks so much for commenting.

  10. Informative article. Sometimes becoming educated is painful. And lastly, I don’t think they have a right to earn a profit if they are receiving tax dollars. When I owned my business I earned a profit (without taxpayer assistance) so it was mine to keep 100%. If they turn a profit, that amount should be returned to the taxpayers. Common sense, but Washington doesn’t practice that and tries to dumb us down so we won’t question what they do. Thanks for the info. Only thing missing was covering the difference between their “medical” side (non-profit status), and their political side, where funds are used to lobby, etc. Learning more about this aspect might be interesting.

    1. Thanks, Laura. So are you saying you would be interested in seeing how much spending is done on the “medical” side as opposed to the lobbying?
