UPDATE: Naturally Simple is now Peepods. Same great products–new name!)
A number of years ago, if you would have told me that I would have been writing a post about reusable feminine products (a.k.a. period pads), I would have thought that you were crazy.
Like so many other things in my life, things have changed and I’ve had to change my mind.
So here I am to tell you what’s great about washable cloth pads, why I use them, which ones I use and – how you can get some for free!
Think the idea is gross? Please read on and don’t give up on me yet!
Like so many things in my life, I’ve had to change my tune – admit that I was wrong – eat crow – whatever you like to call it.
I’ve shared about some of these “change my tune” situations before.

- Could You Have Heavy Metal Poisoning and Not Know It?
Well, here I am again to say that I was wrong. Again.
Years ago I used to think that reusable / sustainable feminine products were icky.
Maybe some of you think the idea is icky too.
Well, I am here to tell you:
- why you should consider using reusable feminine products
- about a great company that has a wonderful product
- how to get some free and/or discounted feminine products
Why You Should Use Reusable Feminine Products (Period Pads)
After years of thinking about it, here are my thoughts now about why reusable feminine products are the way to go.
1. They make even more sense than cloth diapers. If you’re in natural parenting circles at all, cloth diapers are all the rage. Much moreso than when I started cloth diapering my oldest. At first I thought they were icky, but then I realized that dumping products that won’t deteriorate into a landfill (with my child’s waste on it) was really the icky thing.
When you think about it, we’re talking blood here. Not #2. So – if you can handle cloth diapering, you can handle this.
2. Save a TON of money. There are all kinds of numbers on the internet about how much money one can spend on disposable feminine products, and of course it will depend on your usage. But this site estimates usage at about $17 per month. At that price, you can pay for an entire set of washable menstrual pads in a pretty short time. And you should be able to use these for years.
3. Save the environment. I always cringed throwing away disposable diapers when I first started diapering my son. As the years passed, the cringing carried over to whenever I had my period. I really don’t like throwing anything away, but especially something that I need to use over and over again. We’ll talk later about paper towels, plastic silverware and all of that stuff. Basically, I don’t use any of it.
4. Easy to use! You just use them, rinse, soak in water and wash in a wash bag with the rest of your wash. Super simple! And Naturally Simple gives you great washing and use information with your purchase. Make sure you read it (someone you know didn’t and ended up with a little problem — not saying who
.)
Introducing Naturally Simple
Awhile ago I began thinking about trying out washable menstrual pads. I was getting fed up with throwing used pads away every month. All that plastic and the wrappers and the stuff that soaks up the liquid. I kept thinking of them like I was thinking about disposable diapers. The overflowing landfills and my emptying wallet.
So I started poking around at different companies online, trying to find one that had what I wanted:
- reasonable prices
- durable products
- attractive designs (every woman likes to feel pretty, right?)
- a company willing to work with me
I had a few bumps in the road during my searching. Either the company wouldn’t work with me, or their products looked inferior, or the company had a name that I wasn’t thrilled about promoting (yeah, I can be picky about some things :’)).
One day I got a surprise in the form of a Facebook message. A fellow blogger was friends with a company looking to work with a blogger to advertise their cloth pads.
One look at them and I was hooked!
I got in contact with Amber of Naturally Simple and she provided me with a great assortment of several sizes of pads and a handy dandy wash bag and a waterproof carrying bag – and well, the rest is history.
What I like about Naturally Simple
1. Their products work great. I have used them for several months now and I am just thrilled. No leaks, even at nighttime. The waterproof bag (for when you are out and about) works great, the wash bag is sturdy and the they have newly designed pads with adjustable snaps to keep the pads in place. (I really couldn’t believe that there was no leaking at nighttime. :-)!)
2. They are sturdy. I have seen a lot of pads and tried one other brand. Now, I haven’t used these for that long, but they seem to be much more durable than the others that I have personally seen and tried.
3. They are beautiful. I know it sounds ridiculous, but when I received my cloth pads in the mail, I was just thrilled. And now, since I am using these pads, I don’t view my menstrual cycle as so much of an imposition any longer. I mean, I get to wear something extra that is pretty once a month
.
4. They are made from good fabrics & they have a consumer friendly policies. From Naturally Simple’s site:
“The layer closest to your skin is a super-soft flannel. The wing fabric is sewn with high-quality quilting cottons that are beautiful and durable. Our design is simply one functional piece – no fussy inserts or flaps to deal with! All our flannels and cottons have been pre-washed to eliminate color transfer while washing. We are committed to a standard of excellence and offer a six month snap and seam guarantee on all of our pads and accessories.”

These look lovely. I’m totally in need of some new cloth pads. I first started using cloth about 10 years ago. My favorites have been by my friend, Christy, who sells under SewFussy on Etsy. Her workmanship is great and she uses organic materials.
What materials are these made of? The sewing and design look awesome!
They are beautiful. I should add the materials to the post – thanks! To quote their site: “The layer closest to your skin is a super-soft flannel. The wing fabric is sewn with high-quality quilting cottons that are beautiful and durable. All our flannels and cottons have been pre-washed to eliminate color transfer while washing.”
Great! I also like the darker colors. Aesthetically, it’s better for the inevitable staining and discoloration. Between my cloth pads and diva cup, I can totally skip the feminine aisle of the store and absolutely love that!

I have a diva cup waiting to try once my cycle restarts ( I had a baby in May). These would be great to have too; I haven’t found a cloth pad to try yet.
I have been thinking about trying this out. I’m wanting to become more self sufficient and this is one good way to start. Love the espresso ones!!
I think that $17 per month spent on feminine hygiene products is a little high. I use a variation of pads, pantyliners and tampons, and I can get a decent sized package of each of those for under $17, and they last me anywhere from 4-6 months… So that figure may be skewed.
I do like the idea of having something to use over and over again, and not need to rely on throwaway products.
I LOVE cloth pads! Would love to add these ones to my small collection
Would love to try these. My daughter is allergic to the regular pads and have been trying to find some cloth ones.
I’d get the deluxe starter set in either cranberry or espresso
I would love to try them! I get what must be akin to the chemical burns my baby got when i tried disposables (guess how fast I made the switch to cloth diapers?!)… I don’t know why I’m putting it off for myself! I’d try to try the whole line and i love the darker colors, especially the espresso.
How interesting! My youngest wouldn’t wear disposable diapers ever. No burns but he wouldn’t wear them!
Love the deluxe starter set in espresso.
I would love the liner set in espresso to go with my diva cup.
I like the Complete Postpartum Set in Espresso
Yes! I want to try these! I have been waiting to try something like this. I didn’t like the idea of using the cup thingy!

I used cloth pads, in the past, when my son was in cloth diapers, then I stopped using them when he was out of diapers. I actually made my own, and I just love the feel of flannel, instead of the stuff that disposable pads are made from. These look like an awesome design, especially the snap!
these are very pretty. i’ve used pads like this before and loved them.
Love cloth moon pads. They are so much healthier for women and allow us to embrace our femininity in a beautiful way.
These look so comfy! I can see the green stacking up in my bank account, already!
The deluxe starter set in Espresso is very nice looking. I have been wanting to use washable, reusable menstrual cloth for awhile… I am going to look into it more now!

I have been looking at patterns and websites for cloth pads. Ready to make the change.
I have a couple different brands of washable pads and use them over disposables in most instances. I’ve been mildly pleased with them but have desired to tryout different brands in hopes of finding one that is above the rest, but I haven’t been able to afford to purchase more just yet. Thus, I would love to review this product! The Deluxe Set in Espresso would be my choice
I started 2 months ago with a cloth pad and love it! I am so mad at myself that I didn’t do this sooner. Would love a whole set so I can get totally off of disposables
The deluxe starter set in red would be my choice!
How terrifying! Yet, as an environmentalist/herbalist/natural health fan, I NEED to try it and see if it’s for real. I HATE throwing out my pads – it’s so wasteful! I’d love to try the pantyliners, the one for people who would like to try them first. In Espresso please!
I have been wanting to make the switch over to cloth pads. And I know in the long run, they are less expensive. But that upfront cost is always what gets me. When it comes down to it, the money ends up going somewhere else in this family of 5. I’d love to win either set just to get started. I’m always a sucker for espresso color anything
Would love a set for my DD who will be reaching menarche soon.
would love a set for my dd who has nearly reached menarche.

Great product!
I have friends who make these & have been considering trying cloth for panty liners or pads for a while now. Seems like darker makes more sense. I have also considered a diva cup, which my friends also endorse
For me, the thong panty liners would come in handy the most
And the cranberry color would probably be most appropriate!
These look great. I’d like the Deluxe Starter Set in espresso.
I love these!

These sound great!
I would love to have the regular pad in cranberry. I am finding that traditional pads are becoming irritating to me.

I like the night pad in plum.
Adrienne- You’re so awesome! I learn so much from you! Now, did I miss how we are supposed to wash these? I would assume we rinse in the sink, but then what? Do you wash them on a seperate cycle in the machine, or what? Thanks!
PS- Having your YUMMY Kima tonight!
Rinse in sink and then wash w/ other clothing

Espresso pantyliners. I have cloth pantyliners that a a cream color but have to say these rich, darker colors are much nicer. Can’t say enough good things about using a Diva cup. So glad tampons are a thing of the past.
I would love the delux set in Espresso!

They all look nice. I’m probably in the market for the day pad or panty liners. I can’t do a night pad alone. I liked the cranberry color. I’ve tried the diva cup and I don’t think it’s the right fit for my body
I can’t do pads alone and I can’t quite justify paying for another cup product yet. I’m afraid I’ll have to try everyone on the market before I find one that works for me.
Love the espresso! You have totally made me at least want to try them where I like you have thought the idea was yucky before.
I have been wanting to try this type of pad for a long time! I would like the deluxe starter set in the brown.
I would like to try the deluxe set in espresso. What a great giveaway!
I’ve never tried these nor know of anyone who has so I’m interest in trying them.
I would love to try the deluxe starter set in espresso.
I would love to try the night pads. I go through pads like crazy and they irritate my skin. I’d love to try something that doesn’t have the harsh chemicals in them.
I’d love to try the deluxe starter set in Cranberry.
I have been sold for awhile. Considering switching to TP-less house hold (for myself and my boys), no store bought wipes, cloth diapers, and when my monthly visitor returns… perfect!
Love the espresso.

I’d like to try cloth pads. I have a few I’ll be using soon, but the deluxe set would really fill the gaps in my beginning set! I’d choose the espresso.
never heard of these. Would like to try, though. Deluxe starter in espresso.
Have thought of making or buying cloth pads since I both made and bought cloth diapers. I use a diva cup, but my daughter is now menstruating and uses the disposables. I think the espresso would be the best color for either of us.
worth giving a try. Deluxe starter in plum would be my choice.
I get extremely heavy periods needing overnight pads changed, sometimes twice an hour for the first few days. How would these cloth pads hold up to such a heavy flow? Also, I’d hate to be doing a load of laundry daily just for pads, how many does a woman need to cover a cycle?
You just wash them w/ your other laundry after rinsing and soaking them. I would ask Amber about those other questions. I will let her know to hop over here. Thanks!
I would buy the starter kit for teens, for my daughter and the panty liners and overnighters fr myself. I’d choose espresso or cranberry.
i’ve been thinking of making the switch….it just makes sense esp after doing cloth diapers.
the deluxe starter kit in espresso:)
I’ve tried cloth panty liners before, but never the pads. The deluxe starter set in espresso would be a great way to give them a try.
I have thought about trying them, but I was wondering about my heavy flow. I guess they would have heavy flow cloth pads??
The nighttime pad is great!
I would love to try these.
I love all the products but really need some nightime pads! I like the expresso color. Hoping to win the deluxe set! Thank you!
In response to the need for very heavy flow pads…My recommendation to women switching over to cloth vs disposable is to change them about as often as you would a disposable. It sounds like your period would require quite a collection of the night pads to meet your needs but I think it could be doable. To cover an average cycle (any nobody is average so that is kinda hard to estimate) 14-15 pads is about right. Since the starter set comes with six pads that would mean washing your set once our twice throughout your entire period.
I have been thinking about switching to reusable feminine products for a long time. I would love to have the deluxe kit. Thanks for a great post!
You’re so welcome!!
I’m not commenting to win, because I already have a stash of pads of my own, but just wanting to encourage other ladies out there to give it a try. Like you, I’d have never in a million years imagined I’d be using washable pads, but after picking up a pair at a craft show a few years ago, I’ll never go back. They so easy to use, and have saved me tons of money.

I made the same realization years ago too. I use the MoonCup (UK) most days but due to overflow have to use a pad too. I just made mine out of scraps and would love to have some that were ‘professionally’ made.
I would love to try/use her day pads or the deluxe starter kit, to get a good idea of what is out there.

I like the cranberry color and would love to try the pads and pantyliners out!
I would LOVE to try these! I think the espresso might be my color!
I would LOVE the deluxe set in Cranberry. Would also be interested in a set for my daughter who hasn’t yet started, but will in the not too distant future… Not sure how I feel about that! Thank you for the post- I’ve been wanting to try this realm, but wasn’t sure where to invest my $

These are terrific! I like the deluxe starter sets in cranberry or espresso. Any of them are nice!
It’s genius that they are black. That takes out the “gross” factor for sure. I would like to give these a try.
I would love the cranberry color as well!
great post! I have been interested in giving these a try for a while now!
I think I’m going to have to try these… getting tired of icky-feeling disposables!
Forgot to mention that I’d love the deluxe starter set in espresso!
I like the deluxe set in espresso!
deluxe starter set in cranberry. thanks!
Deluxe starter set of postpartum pads in espresso…having been pregnant or nursing for the past 6 years, I don’t have too many regular periods, but a baby every other year is good enough reason to invest in these products!
I learned to sew specifically so I could make my own. I had SO much fun picking out fabrics and customizing the pads for myself. And it was WAY cheaper than buying pre-made ones. I got so good at it, I started selling them on Etsy and actually made a tidy little profit! I don’t really want to enter the contest–I’ve got plenty of pads–but I hope whoever gets them loves them as much as I love mine!
I would so love the opportunity to try out the deluxe starter set in cranberry. I have a DivaCup, which I absolutely adore, but I find myself occasionally needing to use a “traditional” pad as well. This would be a fabulous option!
I would love to try the pantyliners in cranberry or plum. I’ve been thinking about trying cloth pads. I wonder how you make them….. hmmm.
Linda
I like the plum
I would love to try the night time pads, in espresso or cranberry. They are all so pretty I really can’t choose, I’m so indecisive! lol I have terrible allergies and skin issues, so I am thinking this post may be a gift from God. I had never heard of reusable pads before.
I’m indecisive too – about most things
.
The deluxe set in Cranberry would be wonderful!
I’d choose the Deluxe starter pack – getting to try them all seems a good place to start. And in espresso – the red is a little too “reminderish” for me.

I felt the same way:).
Awesome giveaway, thanks!! I would like anything in expresso color – thanks – but my preference would be the deluxe package.
I don’t do twitter, but I did Pin it on my Pinterest page
The deluxe reusable pads in cranberry look awesome.
Would love to try these!
Also, I like the flowery ones
I just want to say, for those who are not sure about cloth pads… give them a try. Every since I have been using them, my cramping has gone down considerably. When I run out of cloth or decide it would be easier to use conventional, I always get a cramp. The cloth are so easy to use, clean up really easily in the machine without much fuss, and make period time fun. Thanks for the great giveaway!
Wow – why do you think that is? I heard something funny – well, not so funny. It was that the commercial pads actually have something in them to make your flow heavier – anyone know anything about this?
Do you mean ON PURPOSE? Grrrr
Just making sure you heard that you won…..???

I heard from someone that there is something in the pads to encourage more bleeding, but I haven’t been able to confirm it.

I would love the deluxe starter set in espresso- thanks
I tried cloth pads many years ago and wasn’t thrilled with them. I’ve been using a Keeper for many years now and I’m at the point where I need to replace it or try something new (I don’t like the Diva cup). These look and sound like a great product.
What’s a keeper? And what didn’t you like about them?
I absolutely LOVE cloth pads!!! I would be happy to win either! I love the cranberry! I am having my last baby in May and plan on using cloth for the entire postpartum bleed. So I need to stock up!
I’ve been thinking about trying something like this. These look like a good place to start!
These look awesome. I would love to try them
Oops! Forgot to say that I like the espresso deluxe pad set.
Adrienne: ^ The Keeper is a natural rubber menstrual cup that needs to be replaced every 10 years. It was about 12 years ago that I tried Glad Rags and they were absorbent but they were a bit bulky for me.
I would LOVE to try these! I used cloth diapers on our kids, why don’t I use something like this? Thank you for a great give a way!

Would like to try the deluxe starter kit in espresso or plum color.
I like the espresso or plum. I would probably get deluxe starter set. You’re right that how icky can this be when compared to using cloth diapers.

As an avid fan of mama cloth I would really love deluxe starter set in dark colors like cranberry or espresso
I like the Deluxe Starter set in plum. I have painful cramps and very sick when using store bought pads.Would like to have natural ones for my daughter.
I’ve been thinking about trying something like this, so this is a stellar opportunity for me!
I would like to try the deluxe starter set in cranberry, but now that I’m about to have a baby, I’m considering buying the postpartum set.
These look awesome! I’m allergic to most all the pads on the market! Would love to give these a try and know tht I’m not contributing to waste in landfills! If they come in green I’d love that color!
I would love to try these, in any color. I’ve never heard of these before today!
Amber is a friend of mine and she made me some awesome reusable nursing pads! I have no need of these yet, but when I do… I’m fairly sure I’ll need the postpartum set. Always have needed those.
In cranberry!

We just gave up tampons for the reusable kind. But I haven’t tried the cloth pads. These are beautiful.
Would love to try the deluxe starter set in espresso!
The starter set would be wonderful! But really any of them would be great! And I’m liking plum!
I have so been wanting to switch to cloth pads, and just haven’t taken the plunge–partly because of the initial expense. Would LOVE to win these! I like the Deluxe Starter Set in cranberry! They look really comfortable!
I’d probably choose the nighttime pads in cranberry. Thank you for the giveaway!
Looks great!
I use cloth pads…but they are homemade ones by my daughter. I like the nightpad on the site because it’s longer (which is great) and I love the cranberry color. What a wonderful giveaway.
I would like the deluxe starter set or the deluxe variety set in either expresso or plum.
Thanks for hosting this giveaway and for all the free books you had on your site today, have saved alot of money on e-books from your site!
Rachel
You’re welcome!
I’d like to try the night pad in espresso. Clever colors (rather than light, springy colors).

starter kit in espresso!
I would love to try cloth. I tried a Diva Cup and hated it, so I’ve been reluctant to spend any more money on feminine products in the fear that I won’t like them. Thanks for the giveaway!
Whoops, forgot to add that I’d like to try the day pads in plum!
These are great! I would definitely try the deluxe starter kit of the postpartum pads as I’m having my first baby in March. I would must rather use these than the awful mattress sized pads I’ll get from the hospital.

It’s interesting. I have never really heard of. Interested in mostly the pantiliners. But more I think about it the more interesting it sounds.
I would love the day pads in cranberry!
These are great! I would like the Deluxe starter set in Plum.
Adrienne, thank you so much! I chose the plum deluxe set for my daughter. Now to persuade her to give them a try…
I’m long past menses so I don’t need the pads but I might just try the panty liners before she even knows these are in the house…just so *I* know how they feel.
Do you think she will? They are WONDERFUL!
I love using cloth diapering for my baby but never thought about using reusable pads. I have used the Diva Cup for years and loved it but I am intrigued after reading your blog post. I just found your page and am really excited to follow-I too am a natural minded mama
Welcome! You would love them!
I no longer have a period, but I am incontinet . Does she have pads for that. I now use maxium Tena pads. I go thru at least two a day. thanks
Yes, she does. They are gorgeous. Check out her site and there are many to choose from. I’d love to hear what you think!
