Are you feeling stressed out of just plain exhausted? This Adrenal Cocktail Powder, aka Singing Canary Dry Mix is just what you need.

What’s a Singing Canary, you ask?

Hint: We’re not talking about a real bird here, but you’re going to feel like singing after drinking this.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane?

No–it’s a drink!

The Singing Canary is the name of a drink developed by the ladies behind the Trim Healthy Mama eating plan. It’s basically a blend of lemons, turmeric, and a few other things and is designed to support your adrenals. In fact, it has quite a few ingredients that are considered to be healthy foods for adrenal support.

Support for Your Adrenals

There are so many people talking about adrenal fatigue these days–I think it’s rampant. People are wiped out way beyond typical tiredness. I had a bad case of it, but thankfully I’ve done a lot to heal and I’m doing pretty well these days.

But I’m always looking for more support. My life is still quite stressful from time to time and with all of the toxins in our lives, it’s crucial to do whatever we can to support our bodies for good overall health.

So in the interest of supporting my adrenals, I started making the Singing Canary. I liked it, but I had a bit of a hard time with the heavy turmeric taste and kept adding more and more stevia to it. Which is fine, because I really sincerely like stevia and have learned a few tricks to get over the sometimes problematic bitter taste of stevia.

However, I thought I’d monkey around with the ingredients to see what I could come up with to make it a bit tastier. I ended up with this new version of the Singing Canary and well, I love it.

Make that WE love it since my youngest is always stealing sips from me. Ahem.

Anyhow, I love the drink, but it is a bit of a bother to put each of the ingredients into the blender one by one.

You know how that goes….1/4 teaspoon of this, 1/2 teaspoon of that….it’s all simple stuff but when you have to do it every day it starts taking up quite a bit of time.

I mean, I’m busy.

So I thought, why not make an adrenal cocktail powder so I can whip this up easily anytime.

How this Adrenal Cocktail Mix Saves Time

Now, instead of spending a ton of time measuring and scooping each ingredient (that’s NINE scoops), you can just measure once and be done with it.

And each scoop saved means a lot of time saved, because if you’re not doing what I shared in my Saving Time with Measuring Tools post, then you really are spending a lot of time.

Think about it….scoop-scoop-scoop-scoop—It’s fun (at least it is for me) the first time that I make a new recipe, but when you’re making it every day, scooping gets old. Fast.

I have a few time-saving tips on my blog including Baking in Bulk, How to Save Time and Money Cooking Pasta, Saving Time with Measuring Tools, and Saving Time with a Dehydrator.

And of course, there’s the Vitamix, which is a HUGE time-saving tool for any whole foods kitchen. We use ours multiple times a day. Totally worth saving up for in my book to purchase at the link above or on Amazon.

You just mix all of these dry ingredients together, store in a tight-lidded jar, get your Singing Canary Dry Mix out every morning, put some of the powder in the blender, add the wet ingredients, and blend away your adrenal struggles!

Duh – why hadn’t I thought of this sooner?

What’s the Best Protein Powder?

For starters, please buy organic protein powder if you can afford to.  Many of the foods that protein powders are made from are heavily doused with pesticides–so choose wisely!

There are other good options, but this protein powder is super creamy and delicious and this link gets $10 off. It’s garbanzo based but is tested for pesticides and the company is very transparent. Their products are developed to support the gut-brain axis which is known to help manage stress, so that makes this a really great choice, especially for this recipe.

If using another vegan protein powder, I highly recommend using organically sourced. Many of the ingredients in vegan protein powders are crops that many pesticides are used on. This organic vegan protein powder is a solid choice but note it can cause digestive upset for some people.

One of the best protein powders out there is Equip. It’s made from grass-fed beef and that’s about it. This company is top notch with unsurpassed quality.

Recipe Notes

This singing canary concentrate is easily adaptable for special diets.

  • You can use collagen protein instead of a protein powder, however collagen is lacking tryptophan so you might want to add that to your diet if you choose to do that.
  • For AIP, use the collagen protein option or Equip protein powder (use code WHOLENEWMOM to get 15% off your first order) and substitute organic mace for nutmeg.
  • You can choose to use less Vitamin C for this recipe if you like. If doing so, you should scale down the amount of the concentrate used by 1/4 teaspoon or so.
  • I recommend using sodium ascorbate for this recipe. Other vitamin Cs have different properties. One thing that I like about sodium ascorbate is that it is pretty well tolerated and not acidic so you can buy it in bulk and use it for other purposes where you wouldn’t want the acidity, as in this DIY Swim Spray.
  • This is a “fuel pull” for those on the Trim Healthy Mama plan.
  • Vitamin C Alternatives: You can use another whole food powder or this Homemade Vitamin C powder is a great option as well.

    1. Hi there! So sorry you are feeling that it’s gritty. Is it one of your spices or perhaps you didn’t grind it all find enough? Do let me know and hopefully I can help more.

      1. It could be my blender. I have one of those magic bullets since I don’t have lot of space in my kitchen. Does yours grind the spices super fine?

  1. I screwed up and put 5 Tbsp of powder in 8 cups of water. If I add 16 more cups water and more lemon juice, could I can it? Also, is it okay to drink before bed?

    1. Hi Amy! Hmmmmm… I am totally not a canning expert at all. Have you heard about people canning adrenal cocktails? I drink some of this before bed all the time. It’s meant to be sipped on throughout the day. Some people say that having vitamin C before bed energizes them but I have found that a small amount helps me and in fact, if I don’t have any (natural or synthetic) during the day, I have had times when I can’t sleep well.

      1. I get 4000 mg /day of ascorbic acid (more when I’m sick). I just don’t have room in the fridge for 192 oz of the cocktail. Unless you don’t think it needs to be refrigerated?

        1. Hi there! I think 4000 is a lot – just a personal opinion. I think it should be refrigerated for sure but I’ve left it out in winter sometimes but it’s meant to be drunk in one day. So really no need to refrigerate.

  2. 5 stars
Well, I’m a doof. I made this recipe and made a few adjustments using what I had in hand. I used a vanilla flavored collagen instead of protein powder. I didn’t have ground ginger but I DID have ginger root in the fridge. (I love fresh ginger.) Everything is going according to plan EXCEPT I read the directions as 5 TBSP of concentrate. I thought it was a lot and doesn’t make much sense using the majority of the concentrate for one drink. It’s strong flavored (of course) but still surprisingly tasty. Even though I made the drink too strong, I’d still recommend it… just use the correct measurements. ?

    1. I just did the same thing, but I’m not a fan of the turmeric, so I just posted a question about canning it (if I add the correct amounts of ingredients).

      1. Sorry I’m not clear about the function of the ACV. You can do either w/ the lemons. Just I recommend organic if you do the whole lemon.

  3. This sounds awesome! What about taking it on the go though as far as the liquids? Would the Tru lemon packets work? Put a little MCT^ oil in there in the morning and shake it like crazy?

      1. Wow!! I am answe3ring this 2 years later!! Busy, busy life and no internet at home, so while I didn’t miss it, I did save the email in my box to read all this time and am now just getting around to it!!
        Thank you!
