Grain-free Healthy Beef Recipes

About 2:00 every afternoon, my 9-year-old son asks, “Mom, what’s for dinner?”

Too much of the time I respond, “Umm… I don’t know yet. Any good ideas?”

Can you relate to this scenario?

I’m a total foodie, so even though I have a number of stand-by recipes, I like to experiment in the kitchen. I enjoy new recipes, flavors, and exciting spice combinations. Often I don’t know what I’m going to make because I don’t want to use a stand-by recipe, but something that tantalizes my tastebuds.

I usually have a freezer full of beef since we frequently—very frequently—purchase half of a locally raised grass-fed cow (I have 4 growing boys and a hungry hubby). We’ve found this to be the most affordable way to feed our family with healthy, nutritious meat.

Wondering about the differences between grass-fed beef and your standard grocery store beef? Be sure to check out my post on grass-fed beef.

Because our freezer is usually brimming with beef, I like to keep a ready arsenal of healthy beef recipes utilizing ground-beef, steak, and even roasts, so we can mix things up.

For this reason, I’ve put together this round-up of healthy beef recipes together for not only your enjoyment but my inspiration as well!

Below you’ll find a variety of beef recipes featuring different cuts of meat: ground beef recipes, steak, roasts, and soups & stews. There are more than 30 recipes in all—enough to have a different recipe every day of the month!

Next time you’ve got some meat thawed, but you still don’t know “What’s for Dinner?”, you know where to find the answer!

  1. We do that with beef too (get a half or whole cow). Are any of these recipes egg free as well? Our little girl can’t have eggs and I can only have them once in awhile. We avoid gluten, dairy (except oddly we can have cheddar cheese). Thanks!

  2. I’m always looking for ways to use ground beef in particular, you tend to have quite a bit when you buy you meat as a whole or half cow! Thanks for the great roundup!

  3. Thanks for including the Easy Borscht! (although it might be under the wrong category?) Looking forward to trying some of the other ones!

  4. Bless you. I was just feeling sorry for myself today about being tired of eating salads and not knowing what else to eat.

  5. Thanks so much for the kind shout-outs. What an amazingly delicious post! Definitely sharing this! YUM!

  6. All of these recipes look really good! My husband we found out about 2-1/2 years ago can’t eat beef (or pork). So, we order a whole locally raised lamb about eleven months old, and by a certain point we fill in at the farmer’s market until the lamb is ready again. But, with most of these recipes listed I could substitute lamb.

So, I am going to tell you what is my favorite lamb recipe! It is a Mongolian recipe. I don’t remember the formal name in the dialect, but it is Stir Fried lamb with Toasted Chili, Cumin, and Coriander. It also has chunks of scallion, and cilantro. Julienned carrots, and green pepper can also be stir fried with it if desired. The recipe calls for lamb shoulder that is thinly sliced. This recipe is more like the sum is greater than it’s parts.

My second favorite is lamacoun/lamacun. There are several different spellings. Basically it is Turkish or Armenian pizza. It is dairy free. The crust can be either thick or thin. It is often used as an appetizer, but we use it as a main dish with a salad. It is ground lamb with ground bell peppers, onions, plum tomato that is seeded, and garlic, with cilantro and mint. All the ingredients are mixed together and then left to sit a little while for them to blend. Then a small amount of the mixture is evenly layered on a rolled out gluten free crust that is partially baked if homemade, then baked in a very hot oven on a pizza stone. Bake until done to liking. This pizza can be cracker like, or a softer crust that is folded lengthwise. I have no preference for the crust. This is also the sum is greater than it’s parts recipe.

    1. Wow. Sounds amazing! Off to look for a recipe. And I’ll take the first one if you have it :)!

  7. When my mom asks the inevitable, “What should we have for dinner?” I sometimes get a litte smart alecky and say “Food, we should definitely have some food.” We don’t want to have something inedible after all, do we? 🙂 So whatever it may be that we do have for dinner, it will definitely be some kind of food, lol! (I try to be good, but sometimes I just can’t help myself! Then again, my mom can still give me a little smack even though I’m 34 so I have to watch it!)

    1. Ha – too funny!! Love it! I’m going to tell my son that the next time he asks :). I guess your mom lives with you?

      1. Well, I actually live with my parents. I never left home in fact. They have a lot of health problems (though so do I, sigh…) so I just stayed around to help them out. My mom is not usually amused when I give her that comment though, so I use it very sparingly! 🙂 I have to be discerning and know when and where I can say things!

        1. I think it’s great you live with them. There’s not enough of that in our culture :). We lived with my in laws for 2 years. All of my friends thought it was crazy–except for my Indian friend at work. She said in their culture you are a problem if you CAN’T live with your parents.

  8. Wow! This is a great looking round up! Thank you so much for including my Cheeseburger Vegetable Soup : ) It’s one of my husbands favorites!
