Need to save time in the kitchen?  Who doesn’t?

If you are like me, you have too much to do everyday and not enough time to do it.

And, if you are like me and trying to do the real foodie thing, then your kitchen can use all the time-saving tips that you can find.

So when I find a way to save time in the kitchen, I am all over it.

I am even willing to spend extra money in order to save time (after all, time is money, right?

Well, today I have a tip for you that will save you time and won’t set your budget back much at all. In fact, maybe not at all.

And boy, is it simple.

One of my pet peeves in the kitchen is washing dishes.  And one of the things that I least like washing is measuring cups and spoons.  Especially when I am doing it over and over and over again.  And especially when there is a lot of fine powdery or oily stuff on it.

Well, here is my tip.

Buy a lot (and I mean, a lot) of measuring spoons and cups, and put them in the containers of things that you use regularly or that are particularly messy.

You will save time in two ways:

1.  For items that you use regularly (like organic popcorn, in our home), you don’t need to keep going to the cabinet where the measuring cups are to find the 1/2 cup measure.

2.  For items that are particularly messy, you will save time by not having to wash the measuring cups over and over again.

3.  And, for messy items that you use regularly (like homemade egg replacer (post to follow in the near future), carob, spices like my homemade vegetable broth, and coconut oil), you will save time both ways :-)!

What size cup or spoon should you use for each container? Well, the one that matches the amount of each item that you typically use.  For example, I use:

Measure Organic popcorn

1/2 cup in our organic popcorn

Carob Powder Storage

1 tablespoon in carob powder

Homemade Vegetable Boullion Mix

1 tablespoon in my Homemade Vegetable Broth

Store Salt / Store RealSalt

1/2 teaspoon in our Real Salt

Where to buy measuring cups and spoons? Well, how about this large lot on Amazon, dollar stores, thrift stores — and well, garage sale season is right around the corner! If you need lots of one particular size, then garage sales might just be the way to go. If the size doesn’t matter for your use, then one or two big sets would work great.

Now that you’ve saved some time — you can go do something else more rewarding than washing utensils.  Play with your kids, write a letter (does anyone do that anymore?), work on photo albums (I need to do that), or invite someone over to your home and practice hospitality.   Every bit of saved time helps :-).
