Am I correct in assuming that I am not the only one shocked every time I fill up at the gas station or visit the grocery store or order more groceries online?
I know–I know. Gas has been over $3.00 per gallon for awhile now.
But I think it should still be a shocker. And it is for me.
And grocery prices? I can tell you that my husband’s salary sure isn’t going up as fast as those prices are.
To try to keep pace with inflation without going crazy, I try to save big when I can and stock up on things that I know we will need.
Early on in the life of my blog, I wrote a post on Frugal Pantry Storage Tips. Basically, it is a glimpse into how I have helped to keep our family debt free while we lived on a single income that was nowhere near 6 figures, and sometimes was on the very low end of 5 figures.
It hasn’t been easy all the time, but I must say, sometimes I find it to be kind of a fun challenge to see how much money I can save on things.
This week, I have some really good deals for you that you just might want to stock up on.
Free Shipping and Sales at Tropical Traditions
Tropical Traditions has long been a favorite place of mine to shop for coconut oil, but they have other great products as well.
From now until midnight, Monday, August 6, they have FREE SHIPPING This is a great thing because a lot of their products are fairly heavy and shipping really ads up!
I use Tropical Traditions’ Expeller Pressed Coconut oil all the time. It is reasonably priced and has no coconutty taste or flavor so it is perfect if you want the health benefits of coconut oil without the added flavor and smell.
Tropical Traditions always has good sales on something, but currently they have a sale on one of my favorite products, coconut flour.
Organic Coconut Flours – 2.2 lbs.
You can get 2.2 lbs for $9.99 which is $4.54 per pound. With free shipping, that’s a great deal!
(If you really want to stock up and save, you can join their Healthy Buyers Club and purchase 22 pounds of coconut flour for $77.70 which is $3.53 per pound.) That only makes sense if you are going to bepurchasing from them all year, but I do
.
Coconut flour is a staple for grain free diets. We have very recently gone grain free, so we’ll be using a lot more coconut flour around here. I hope to share some great recipes with you soon.
Another great sale this month is Palm Shortening. Only $23.59 for 7 lbs! You can use this whole foods shortening anywhere you would use Crisco. But you’re not using Crisco anymore, right
?
You can see all of the great Tropical Traditions sale by clicking here. The first half of the page is for the Healthy Buyers Club, but if you scroll down about 1/2 way, you will see the sales that are available to everyone.
Also, if you’re a new customer at Tropical Traditions, you get a nice informational book about coconut oil that also includes recipes!
Vitacost Deals
Vitacost always has great prices, but they have some amazing deals that beat just about anything on the internet. If you stocked up before but wanted more than the 6 item limit, here’s your chance to grab some more.
Here are the deals that most interest me this week:
- Boiron Arnicare Gel – $5.69. I am not a homeopathic guru, but I know of even mainstream docs who prescribe arnica for their patients for post surgery healing.
- Kirk’s Castille Soap - 4 oz bar – $.97 Clean, all natural soap.
- Native Forest Organic Coconut Milk – $1.97. I never buy canned coconut milk since I just make my own and save a TON, but if you’re not there yet, this is a great deal. The one reason I might buy some is to make some of that great coconut cream frosting since it doesn’t appear to work if you use Homemade Coconut Milk from dried coconut.
- Tinkyada Brown Rice Pasta, Spaghetti Style – 16 oz only $2.29 – I just ordered some of this. Can’t wait to try it since I’ve heard it’s the best.
- PB8 Probiotic. Just $9.99 for 120 capsules. This is a well-respected brand.
- Source Naturals Essential Enzymes - Just $12.99 for 240 capsules. Enzymes have really helped us with out digestion.
- Country Life Vitamin D3 - $5.84 for 200 softgels. There’s a lot of info about folks being D3 deficient these days. Check w/ your doctor about how much you should take.
- Natrol Melatonin – $3.99 for 100 tablets
We use melatonin a lot. You might want to read my post on Natural Sleep Help for other things we’ve used to help. Melatonin was a life saver when our oldest son couldn’t sleep a few years ago. - Farmer’s Market Organic Pumpkin - 14 oz $1.85. I have a bunch of this I bought on clearance. Great stuff!! Stock up early for Thanksgiving!
- Bach’s Rescue Remedy Stress Relief – $8.99 – This really seems to help my son’s anxiety.
- Alba Un-Petroleum Jelly – $3.11 for 3.5 oz.
- Grandpa’s Pine Tar Bath soap – $2.25 per bar. I have heard this is a great soap for sensitive skin.
And, if you’re a new customer, you get $10 off your first order. And Free Shipping starts at only $49.
You can find all the clearance deals by clicking here. Remember, you will need to click on the $10 off link to get your savings. And if you aren’t new, I would so appreciate your clicking through here before you shop. I’m an affiliate with Vitacost and make a teensy amount if you shop there after clicking on my link. I so appreciate your support by clicking through my site to shop with my affiliates.

My blog income has taken a sharp dive since I’ve had to take my ads off to stop the false malware warnings. Hope to have them up soon again, but your support helps me keep this free resource going.

Do you prefer the PB8 probiotics over Garden of Life? Just curious on your opinion. We use GOL and feel that it does the job well, but my parents just gave me a brand new bottle of PB8 and I had never heard of it before. Now I see that you recommend it. It is a lot less than GOL!
)
Hi Marillyn. Hard to say. I have never tried GOL. I had heard from many sources that GOL’s quality had gone way down in recent years. I did a post on probiotics fairly recently that you can check out. I don’t know that I found PB8 to be really effective but I have heard some good reports on it. Stay in touch!!
Really? That’s interesting. I haven’t heard anything like that… yet. I guess, in the end, having some sort of probiotics is better than none at all! I know some would argue against that, saying that the best quality (and expensive) kinds are the only ones that work. I am finding the whole probiotic business to be over the top at times. I am looking at the Strata Flora stuff that you recommend. Thinking I might get a bottle… would be a good preventative for my family with parasites and viruses (we are missionaries in Central America).

I think the Strata Flora is out of stock again. You can email the owner of Life Enthusiast to find out the status. I might have an extra bottle to spare if you want. I am trying out another probiotics as well and so far I am pleased. I’d like to give it more time though. Stay in touch!!! One of my closest friends here said she really enjoys your blog, by the way!!
On their website it says that they should be shipping out the Strata Flora in August sometime. So, we’ll see. What’s the other probiotics you are trying?
Sorry I don’t comment much on your blog… really, not at all. But I do like to come here pretty often. You have some good recipes! Glad your friend enjoys my blog. It has been fun going through My Pregnancy Notes Series that I am doing right now.
Anyway, yes, I will stay in touch. Maybe buy that bottle off of you if you are wanting to sell it!

Hi Marilyn. I am working on this one called Inliven currently. It really seems to work and I like the philosophy behind it in that it’s a fermented organic food powder. I am trying out a whole lot of products from the company and am very positive on almost everything.
No worries about your not commenting, but it sure is nice to “meet” you! Thanks for the kind words. Really, she has told me that she rarely goes to any blogs – just mine and yours
.
Oh – the InLiven has several purchasing options and I know some folks are skittish about Multi Level companies, but this one really is intriguing and I am so impressed w/ their philosophy and their skin care. My skin has not been doing great and it looks so much better now so I am really thankful. Please don’t think that I am being pushy – I am just really enthused about it.
In the past we’ve used NOW, Primadophilus, PB-8, Strata Flora, Dr. Ohira, and I can’t remember what other brands right now. Oh – Metagenics and there were a few of the NOW products that we tried. Only a handful were obviously doing anything.
Blessings on you and yours!
Hey again! I checked out the InLiven and it looks interesting. I’ve heard of this company, but have not tried anything. I might look into it more.
Yes, nice to finally “meet” you too! Thank your friend for me
Do you still have that extra bottle of Strata Flora? I would very much like to try it out with my family! Email me and let me know!
)
Thanks!!

Hi Marillyn,
I had thought Miessence was just cosmetics so I didn’t look at them. But now I really can say I am so happy w/ the health of my hair and skin. Of course – no miracles, but my hair is for sure thicker and healthier in just 1 month and my skin looks better. I am not using my old hair spray on my bangs anymore and that is hard but maybe I just need to change my haircut
.
Anyway, I could send you a bottle. I would have to charge a tad for the shipping to get to me and then whatever it costs to ship to you if that’s OK. I just took a bunch today on top of the Miessence b/c I am fighting constipation (sorry for all the info) and it typically works great for that. Otherwise I am dropping off in my use of the Strata and just using the InLiven. I am curious to see how it works long term. There are really interesting reviews on a certain site it you would like I can direct you there. Take care!!!
By the way I just subscribed to your blog! Wish I’d entered the Berkey filter giveaway
.
Hey Adrienne,
Can you email me how much you are thinking of charging for that bottle? Then I will let you know if we will take it or not. Thanks!
Yeah, please do direct me to the reviews… I’m curious!
Thanks for joining in on my blog

How about the current sales price plus something for the shipping? I think I pay about $2 each to get them to my home and then I need to pay to ship them to you. They went down in price recently. A bottle lasts me about 5 months. I want you to get some kind of a deal so let me know your thoughts.
Just ordered thru Vitacost, but messed up. I did not see that i had to link there from your site, so i created an acct. without getting the $10 off. However, I called the company, and they said they could not do anything about that, but I could create an acct with another e-mail if i wanted. So i created one thru Pete’s g-mail acct. You get your $10 credit, and I got mine!
Sheesh….i need to read more carefully!

Good job, Cindy! Thanks so much! Blessings!
Hi Adrienne,
I’m new to your site. I found you by googling how to make chocolate chips. Glad I found you! I ordered from Tropical Traditions through your link. Thanks for the heads up about free shipping! I’ve used their coconut oil before, but my hubs and kids can’t take the intense coconutiness of it. So I ordered the expeller-pressed oil with high hopes. I also ordered the palm shortening and some palm oil (whew! pricey stuff!). Looking forward to my oil fest!

Hi Kim! Just saw your sweet referral on your site. How kind! I know – the palm oil is pricey. I am looking at another source but I have a few too many things going on. I have heard it has a high smoke point and is wonderful for frying and for popcorn!!! Take care!
