Almost Good Enough to Eat Soap – Giveaway with Six Winners!

Aunt Mae's

Today’s post is a different sort.

Yes, it’s a review. And a giveaway.

But it’s a real chance to help someone in need as well.

I think I should have titled this post “When Winnie the Pooh Blew Bubbles.”  Read on to find out why…..

First of all, let’s talk about soap.

Have you read about the harmful ingredients in store-bought soap? If you’re like me, you’ve thought about making your own, but you just haven’t had the guts to do it yet.

Confession time--I’ve been thinking about soap making for about 12 years (yup. I can really procrastinate about some things. ) I have a great recipe and everything. Hmmmm…..maybe this year?

Anyway, I recently got the chance to try a wonderful bar of soap made by a lady going through a very tough time. Let me
introduce you to Mae’s Handcrafted Natural Soaps and to its owner, Mae Raymond.

First–The Soap

Mae’s natural soaps are made with real tallow. And boy, oh boy, do they smell good!

She uses wonderful ingredients.

- Real tallow is gentle for your skin and keeps soap bars hard. So it doesn’t get all mushy in the shower. I don’t even use soap in the shower now because I could never stand seeing all that soap go to waste. I use my Homemade Foaming Soap.

- Olive oil is added for more gentleness and

- Coconut oil for a fluffy lather.

Homemade Oatmeal Soap

Only high quality soap scents or essential oils are used and only with a light hand so you don’t overpower those you meet after showering :). Her coloring agents are of a natural origin.

I received a bar of Chocolate-Covered Cherry Soap to review. First of all, it’s beautiful. Charming wrapping and a solid-looking bar. It smells soooo delicious. My son took it from me and thought it was a chocolate bar!  (yup–the fragrance is THAT good.)

We’re into story-telling in my house (well, mostly my husband and my youngest). And Mae’s Chocolate-Covered Cherry soap ended up being the subject of a Winnie the Pooh story that night. Silly Pooh ended up eating Mae’s soap thinking it was a chocolate bar. Then later, when he burped, soap bubbles came flowing out of his mouth.

(Sorry, Pooh. You have turned into the subject of many a strange tale in our household.)

Finally–About Mae

Mae and SonThis review and giveaway is on behalf of a dear lady who unexpectedly lost her beloved husband in February of this year. He left Mae and their young son behind. Mae’s husband had been out of work for a year and they were living off of a small military pension. They needed to cut back and sadly, one cut back was life insurance. Now Mae and her son are left with very little income (less than a couple hundred dollars per month).

Because of different personal situations, she is currently ineligible for benefits like Social Security. Mae homeschools their son, and thanks to The Home School Foundation, she will receive a grant to cover homeschooling supplies and curriculum.   She is
asking God to provide for her son and herself through her small businesses, one of which is her soap and body product business.

As you can see, the situation is dire for this widow and her son, but the bloggers participating in this giveaway are hoping to bless Mae through this work. We hope you will consider supporting Mae’s business to help her through this tough time.

I’m asking you, dear readers, to seriously consider caring for this widow and orphan as the Bible says, and if you are in the market for some great soap, please consider Mae’s Handcrafted Natural Soaps for your next soap purchase.

PLEASE NOTE: If you wish to purchase soap, you need to email Mae directly at auntmae (at) auntmaes (dot) com . She is updating her Store Page. Thanks for your patience!

If you’d like to give a donation, you can send money via Paypal to RaymondBenevolentFund@gmail.com. Please remember to choose “Personal” giving so the Raymond family doesn’t incur fees. If you need more details, please contact sarahevan5@aol.com.

  1. rafflecopter link didn’t work, but i just found your blog and have been reading for about 4 hours now, lol

  2. Umm, the rafflecopter giveaway wasn’t working for me, but I’d love to be entered.

  3. Hi, Thanks for this, I was just needing to make a batch of soap but maybe I will purchase some instead! I would also like to enter the raffle but there is no link on this page.

    Thanks!

  4. I can sure relate to what this lady is going through and if I had the money, I would certainly buy from her to help her through this time. I am also a single parent of 2 kids that I homeschool. My husband was abusive, and that is why we left him. I came home to take care of my parents. Sadly, my dad passed away in 2008 and my mother is in a nursing home with moderately severe Alzheimer’s disease. I am a freelance writer, but last year I lost the job that just paid my monthly bills. Now, like Mae, I rarely make over a hundred dollars. I encourage all of you wonderful people to help Mae out. God bless you.

  5. Ouida Lampert says:

The rafflecopter link isn’t working (maybe it’s just me?). Please help.

  6. Theresa says:

The rafflecopter would not work and I couldn’t find the “easy entry” box either.
I love handmade soap. So much better than store bought. Just about everything
in my house is herbal or essential oils. SO much healthier.

  7. Theresa says:

Since I love chocolate covered cherries, that would be an interesting scent to try.

  8. I would like to try Spellbound Woods. All the scents sound wonderful.

  9. Elizabeth K says:

I did not see the Chocolate Covered Cherry scent on the link you provided. That would have been my first choice. In lieu of that, my second choice would be Spellbound Woods. She got me on the description “Everyone who tries this falls in love with it”. Thank you!

  10. blackberry – but wow, some very unique scents!

  11. I looked through the scents, and ordered 8 bars from Mae. They smell wonderful! The Spellbound Woods smells like chocolate. And the Tradewinds has a fabulous scent as well. The oatmeal/honey bar left my toddler feeling soft enough that I didn’t put his after-bath cream on him.

She has added new soaps to the page since I ordered last week. I’ll have to get Bordeaux Blend and Black Amber/Lavender next time!
