There is no “clear rule” against including processed ingredients in your submission (but we hope you are moving in that direction :-)). So…occasionally you will find some “whole foodie undesirables” in the entries. What to do if you see processed foods and don’t want them?:
- White or brown sugar? Sub in whatever works for you. Get help subbing in my post on Substituting Sweeteners in Baking and Cooking
- Chocolate Chips? Use Homemade Chocolate / Carob Chips

Chocolate Coconut Bars from The Nourished Caveman
No subs needed here, but I would use my Easiest Coconut Milk for the cream. I think it should work.
Grain-Free Peanut Butter Pie from Texanerin
Well, I was drooling over this when I saw it earlier this week.
And I still am now.
I’d make this with Homemade Almond Butter or Homemade Sunflower Butter, and I would use vegan cream cheese.
And a lower carb something for the crust. Maybe a different dried fruit or ground chia with some liquid and sweetener.
