Welcome back to another week of Allergy Free Wednesdays! A collection of yumminess that is aimed at making it easier for you to create healthy, allergy free foods for you and your family. There is no “clear rule” against including processed ingredients in your submission (but we hope you are moving in that direction
). So…occasionally you will find some “whole foodie undesirables” in the entries. What to do if you see processed foods and don’t want them?:
- White or brown sugar? Sub in sucanat, or honey or an acceptable sugar free sweetener. Get help subbing in my post on Substituting Sweeteners in Baking and Cooking
- Chocolate Chips? Sub in my Homemade Chocolate / Carob Chips (new & improved version coming soon!)
- Others? Don’t think you’ll find many, but ask away if need be. (There was an entry in a previous AFW of a cake that looked incredible, but used PB cups – I have a great healthy sub for that – Healthy “Almost Reese’s!“)
So—-welcome to Allergy-Free Wednesdays (AFW). AFW is a weekly blog hop where folks can share their allergy-free cuisine, gain knowledge about allergy-related topics/issues, and connect with others living or caring for someone with food allergies. Your weekly submissions will be shared on 7 blogs! Additionally, eachhostess will feature a favorite recipe(s) from the week before. Please visit each blog to see their features! Your hostesses are:
- Tessa @ Tessa the Domestic Diva
- Laura @ Gluten Free Pantry
- Nancy @ Real Food Allergy Free
- Amber @ The Tasty Alternative
- Michelle @ The Willing Cook,
- Janelle @ Gluten Freely Frugal
- and–Me

Wondering What You Can Link Up on Allergy Free Wednesday?
My Favorites from Last Week (with substitution ideas)~
Raw Chocolate Tarts from Good Girl Gone Green
Yumm!!! These look pretty easy. I’ll just be subbing in a candida-friendly sweetener like xylitol, vegetable glycerine and/or stevia.
Caramel Apple Pie from Cooking Gluten (& Dairy) Free
We don’t eat much fruit due to candida / sugar metabolism issues, but I might just make an exception for this – or try an apple / rhubarb combo! I’d be subbing in whole grain flour for the arrowroot / cornstarch and a candida-friendly sweetener(s).
and finally,
Magic Chocolate Shell from This Chick Cooks
Can’t wait to make this with my Homemade Chocolate or Carob Chips!!!!
and Readers’ Favorite
Healthy Snack Ideas from Modern Alternative Kitchen

Of course! They look amazing!!!
Adrienne, I have a question that does not belong on this post but i need an answer pronto!!
I am making your baked oatmeal or oatmeal cake and I am soaking it with homemade coconut milk I made today. So I poured hot water over the fresh coconut and made me some yummy milk to soak the oats. Now that they are soaking I wonder should I put them in the fridge? I want to soak for 24 hours like you did. Is it ok to leave out at room temperature??
thanks so much… we have gone wheat free and this would be an awesome treat!!!

I always soak at room temp – in fact, that is preferred so that the soaking actually works
. Thanks for the reminder – I should make some of this soon!!! Enjoy!
Adrienne, you are a fast replier!!!
thank you.
I will let you know how the kids enjoyed this. My oldest doesn’t care much for oatmeal. Maybe in cake format it will attract her?? will see.
thank you again!
