I haven’t but just hopped over there. I would recommend reading this report: http://wholenewmom.com/10-things-you-need-to-know-about-essential-oils-before-you-buy/

and this post: http://wholenewmom.com/health-concerns/toxic-overload-health-concerns/essential-oils-testing-is-it-reliable/

I will be writing more – am interviewing other companies to have an organic option for myself and for you all. I have found one, but am looking for another. I don’t see any purity or testing information on their site – do you?

Thanks for reading – more to come so stay tuned!

I think a company could be unbiased but it is a concern, for sure.

I just took a two hour CE class on Essential Oil Basics. She was not allowed to mention any company names or sell anything as the community college has a policy against it. The first item she covered was the testing of the oils. Her first item of importance was that a company that sells pure, not diluted, essential oils does not test their own oils. Was wondering if that was included in any of your decisions.

Thanks!

I do not recommend internal use of oils without being under the care of a medical practitioner or naturopath or clinically trained professional aromatherapist due to many issues – like the oils affecting mucous membranes, sensitivities, the microbiome, interactions, and more. It is not just about purity. I will be writing about some of this but you really have to be careful due to the caustic nature of the product and the concentrated effect.

As for purity, doTERRA’s oils are not the only pure oils on the market. I am very very careful about the oils that I recommend, but they are not the only ones. And also, if an oil is diluted with a quality carrier oil it would actually be safer to ingest and use – not less safe.

I hope that helps – please feel free to reply if not. Thanks for reading!

Have you every checked out Camp Wander? I have recently been recommended to look at her site. I am personally familiar with YL & DoTERRA, but want to make sure that I can’t get the same quality (or better) for a better price.

Yes, that’s why I said you have to be careful. It completely depends on the concentration. But that’s even true of the menthol oil. My previous bottle of menthol oil I had bought at a tobbaco shop, because that specific product was aimed at the burgeoning home market of turning ordinary cigarettes into menthol cigarettes (because they’ve been outlawing menthol cigarettes in some places, considering them “flavored” along with rum or cherry flavored or whatever). Anyway, that product was fairly week, relatively speaking, because I could dilute it with only two volumes of water and snort it like that (i.e. 10 drops of the menthol only required 20 drops of water), it didn’t burn more than just a bit. But my current bottle, which I bought from a pharmacy, if I did that it would burn a LOT and I have to dilute it a LOT more. So it depends, it’s trial and error. The capsaicin is just something I threw out there because it’s a thing that exists, but realistically I suspect the menthol oil (or “peppermint oil”, very similar, buy that if you don’t find “menthol oil”) will be sufficient for all but those that have the worst sinus problems. And for them, truth be told, I’d just suggest they give themselves a break and go with the Otrivin, realistically.

I like to save a buck wherever I can but essential oils is one place I don’t compromise. I saw your reply to someones comment about taking oils internally to which you replied you would never recommend it. I have no problem ingesting doterra oils because I know they are pure and not harming my body. If you can eat the plants from the source why should the oils be any differet? There should be no reason you can’t ingest essential oils, unless of course they aren’t pure.
