Is There Engine Fuel on Your Almonds??

Is There Engine Fuel On Your Almonds? Find out here.

What – almonds and fuel?  What’s wrong with this picture?

Did you know that the “raw almonds” in the grocery store, health food store, or at Costco, are most certainly not raw almonds at all?

And did you know that they are most likely coated with a fuel additive.  Jet engine fuel additive, to be specific.  As in for racing cars and motorcycles.

I know.  I couldn’t believe it either.  Ick.

Is Costco’s Coconut Oil Junk? Or the Real Deal?

Costco sells Carrington Farms Coconut Oil - is it cheap coconut oil or the real deal?

Do you shop at Costco?

Have you seen their great deal on coconut oil?

I saw it and wondered myself–”Could this really be high quality coconut oil at this price?”  So I bought some about 4 months ago and put it on my shelf.

Many have been thrilled about being able to purchase a great wholesome fat like coconut oil at Costco for a great price.

But not everyone is happy about it.

I honestly was almost in tears this past week seeing what can happen when due diligence isn’t done, accusations are made carelessly, and apologies don’t come.

If you don’t know what I am talking about, read on.

Nutrasweet in Milk–With No Label? Find Out What’s Really Going On

Government Wants to Put Nutrasweet in Milk with No Labels? Read What's Really Happening

Over the past week, there’s been a real buzz in the whole foodie blog realm about the government’s apparent push to add Nutrasweet (aspartame) to milk–with no labeling.

No label for Nutrasweet in milk?  You’ve got to be kidding me.

How could the government add anything to milk without putting it on the label?

Could You Go To Jail for Drinking Raw Milk?

Cows Raw Milk Cow Shares

It’s been a rough few weeks for me.

  • My oldest son’s anxiety
  • Finding a tick embedded in my youngest son’s head while in church
  • Dealing with horrible fatigue supposedly from detox symptoms.

As a result, I’ve been taking a bit of a blogging break.

I have a lot to catch up on due to the “diversions”, but I must say that I read about this raw milk mess this morning in this post on food freedom at Homestead Host and felt I just had to share it with you all.  (By the way, I am a proud affiliate of Homestead Host.  They host my blog and own my domain.  And have FABULOUS service.  If you’re looking to have better service than the “big box blog companies”, please check her out!  You’ll be glad you did!

Our government is at it again. What’s it doing this time?

Outlawing raw milk.

So–you mean that you could actually go to jail for being part of a cow share?

Looks that way to me.

SWAT Team Raids Rawesome Raw Milk | Must See Video!!

Rawesome Raw Milk Raid

The United States’ government’s war on food took another step in the wrong direction when Rawesome Foods, a private food buying club in Venice, CA, was invaded yesterday by an armed SWAT team.

Who was arrested?
-  James Stewart, the owner of Rawesome
-  Victoria Bloch, volunteer Weston A. Price Foundation chapter leader of Los Angeles (apparently a part-time worker at Rawesome), and
-  Sharon Palmer, farmer and owner of Healthy Family Farms, Rawesome’s primary farm supplier

Stewart is being held on $125,000 bail, which is more than the bail in LA for a rapist.

The hypocrisy here is clear and disgusting.

Now, before you read on, please know that this is not JUST an accusation of hypocrisy against this current administration.  There is plenty of evidence of hypocrisy on both sides of the political aisle.  However, all of the evidence is getting just a bit too hard to ignore.  And if you follow the money, it seems pretty clear at least some of what is going on here.

Want to Be Hot? — I Hope Not

Words and Definition“Oh, Be Careful Little Mouth What You Say…”

Seems our culture has gotten a lot less careful about a lot of things, especially things regarding sexuality.

  • TV programs air things today that years ago would have been relegated to R-rated movie theaters — or worse!
  • Magazine covers are so lewd that I cringe whenever going through the check-out line, which–thanks to our garden, our CSA, our co-op, and the fact that I make almost everything from scratch (including coconut milk, chocolate chips and foaming soap)–I rarely grace with my presence anymore.
  • Clothing has gotten so outlandish that it is even hard to shop in even the most conservative at stores, and I struggle with what my husband and sons end up looking at, even at church.

But what about our words?

Language reflects a great deal about who we are.

I think that, as Christians (and moral persons of every religious persuasion), we need to be careful what we say and think more carefully about what our words mean rather than just pick up what the culture is using and adopt it as our own.

To quote one of my husband’s colleagues, John Leonard (a Milton scholar), “The corrupting of innocence begins with a corrupting of language.”

So true!

Now I already was concerned and uncomfortable whenever I heard words like

  • “scr*w”
  • “s*cks” and
  • “bl*ws” make their way into mainstream speech.  I know, it probably seems strange to you that I am putting the “modesty asterisks” in there, but I just can’t help it.  Knowing what their original meaning is, it really grosses me out to type them and well, my 10 year old often reads my posts, so I’d rather keep him a bit more innocent for a while longer :-).

More recently, however, I have been increasingly discouraged to hear this newcomer in our common everyday speech.

The word “hottie.”

Please come over to Modern Alternative Mama for the rest of my thoughts on Sexuality and Speech.

And if you have a moment, I’d love it if you dropped back over here to tell me your thoughts as I can read comments, but cannot interact with readers over there :-).

Police and Lemonade Stands – A Tale of Two Cities

Lemonade Stand Shut Down - Police

Two lemonade stands.  Two governments.  Two different outcomes.

Big government leads to a lot of bad things.  One of them is big spending and another is too much control.

If you read my posts on the FDA being poised to ban supplements, or my other post on how the FDA is shutting down natural supplement companies while allowing the supplementing of our chickens with arsenic, then you know what I mean.

Well, here is more evidence and a clear demonstration of how our nation is heading down the wrong path.

Mother Threatened with Jail Time for Planting Vegetables

Mom Threatened with Jail Time for Vegetable Garden Oak Park Michigan

Jail time for planting a vegetable garden in your front lawn?  This is a definite possibility for a mother in Oak Park, Michigan.  The government authorities there have some real concerns over her front yard raised bed garden and claim it violates community standards.

But is this just another example of government intruding on individual liberties?
